Earlier this year, we dedicated an issue to mismatched furniture. While we talked about how you can shake things up for your living room, bedroom and the like, this issue is just going to be focused on mismatched chairs for the dining room. Mismatched chairs are wonderful in the dining room, adding a lot of textures and creating a more casual and laid-back vibe. To make sure you have a nice dining room that you’ll be proud of, we’ve prepared a list of ideas you can take inspiration from. While many of them are for a 6 seater dining table, you can definitely take two chairs out if you’re planning on a 4 seater table. So take a seat and enjoy (we hope) the 14 mismatched chairs ideas we’ve got for you here.
1. The Blush Room
Mixing wired, molded plastic and steel chairs with a big long wood table. The use of blush pink walls have rendered this pastel room calming.
2. The Little Cottage
This is perfect for a small space. The dining area in our house is usually connected to the living room and is most of the time quite small. But that shouldn’t stop us from having a nice cozy corner made up of colours! If you have a huge dining room, lucky you!
3. The Rainbow Connection
Loving this idea of putting the same chair design in different colours! The murals on the wall and the upholstered window with mismatched cushions are gorgeous too!
4. The Scandinavian
For Scandinavian lovers, go easy on colours but go cray cray putting different chair designs together.
5. Colour Blocking
We love blue with yellow! And really love sprucing up the dining room with mismatched chairs. While it may not seem practical for us to have a carpet in Singapore, we envision this ensemble to be as delicious even without it!
6. The Rustic
A daring move to mix industrial chairs with Victorian inspired ones.
7. The Designer
A few designer chairs spotted here and we thought the arrangement of chairs is perfect. But we are not too sure about the carpet and the wall art. If this is how you’ve dreamt of having for your dining room, you can consider a graphic rug in black and white, and wall art that are less noisy.
8. A Bolt of Blue
See what we meant? A much cleaner look now for sure! The blue short bench looks gorgeous against its black and white friends. When you’re not sitting on it, you can even use it as a pedestal or a magazine holder in this case!
9. The Casual Baroque
Wow! This is so Baroque-y. And juxtaposing the look is an industrial setting. The owner must be a fan of the Victoria Ghost chair.
10. The Bohemian
You don’t have to have them all different. All you need to is a long bench in place of three on the other side and you can still create an interesting ensemble.
11. For Lego Lovers and L.O.s Too
We love the idea of the owner using bar stools for the little ones. And the colours remind us of Lego blocks.
12. The Pastels
Love the open shelves concept — good storage solution while displaying all the kitchen knick knacks! You could experiment with something like this then you won’t have to worry about what painting to put up! The pastel chairs are really cute too.
13. The Monochrome
Like to play safe? Black and white are your best friends. A monochromatic dining room can definitely stand the test of time.
14. A Touch of Industrial
