Apple cider vinegar has long been known as a kind of multi-purpose, miracle worker. From getting rid of bloating to treating colds, apple cider vinegar can truly be used to solve virtually any problem that we have. This includes common problems that we may face at home, such as stains, cleaning and even mildew!
Here's a list of 4 alternative ways to make use of apple cider vinegar at home:
1. To remove carpet stains
If you had a small accident and accidentally stained your carpet, don't panic! Rather than throwing your carpet out, try using some apple cider vinegar instead. All you need to do is to first use a clean, colour-safe towel to remove as much liquid from the stain as possible. Then, using a clean towel, dab some apple cider vinegar on the stain and allow it to sit for a couple of minutes. Afterwards, pour some salt onto the area and rub it in before vacuuming. Your carpet will now look as good as new and no one would be able to tell that it had been stained before!
2. As an all-purpose cleaner
Apple cider vinegar acts as a fantastic all-purpose cleaner that can be used in virtually every area of the home, from your countertops to floors to stovetops.
For instance, to wipe your kitchen countertops, stovetops or microwave, simply use a 1:1 mixture of apple cider vinegar and water.
Alternatively, to mop your wooden floors, add 1/4 cup of apple cider vinegar to every 3.7 litres of water to create a diluted, but effective cleaning solution. Then, dip your mop into this cleaning solution and wring as much liquid as possible, before mopping your floors and allowing it to dry completely.
Do take note that apple cider vinegar might be too strong for natural surfaces like marble or stone, so it'd always be a good idea to test it out on a small area beforehand.
3. To drain your drains
If your drain isn't working as effectively as it typically does, and is taking a long time for all the water to flow down, it's probably a sign that you need to drain your drains. All you have to do is to pour 1/4 cup of another common household pantry item — baking soda — as well as half a cup of apple cider vinegar and half a cup of boiling water down your drain. Allow this mixture to work its magic for at least 15 minutes, before pouring down additional hot water to rinse your drain. Your drains will now be back to normal, and functioning as well as, or even better, than they used to.
4. To eliminate Mildew
Mildew is a headache that we often have to battle against when trying to keep our bathrooms clean. Well, if you're one of those who are constantly having to fight against the build up of mildew in your bathroom, you'd be pleased to find out that apple cider vinegar can actually be an effective agent to rid of your bathroom of any mildew!
For tough mildew, simply pour out some apple cider vinegar and allow it to sit on the affected surface for 30 minutes, or overnight. Then, simple scrub the mildew away and rinse the area with clean water. For milder cases or for general maintenance, you can dilute the apple cider vinegar instead, and repeat the same steps.
