5 Reasons Why You Should Declutter Your Home ASAP

"Decluttering" is a word that you might have seen quite frequently, particularly over the past 2 years. After all, it is one of the most important steps in the KonMari method that was popularised by Marie Kondo after the release of her series on Netflix.

Before you simply hop onto another trend without truly understanding its rationale and benefits, here are 5 compelling reasons why you should start decluttering your home ASAP!

1. "A cluttered space is a cluttered mind"

You've probably heard this saying at a certain point in your life, and it's really true. Most people actually find it difficult to concentrate in a cluttered environment, as they're constantly distracted by the various things that are competing for their attention. This thus contributes to lower levels of productivity and efficiency, which are typically also accompanied by higher levels of stress. After decluttering your home, especially your work area, witness a rise in your concentration and productivity levels!

Additionally, going to bed after looking at lots of clutter can actually contribute to lower qualities of sleep, as your brain will be mentally processing all the visual stimuli, making it more challenging to fully wind down and relax. Clearing out your home and getting rid of clutter will thus also contribute to greater feelings of peace and calmness so that you can fully wind down and enjoy better qualities of sleep.

2. Save some money

Getting rid of unnecessary clutter and belongings will free up more physical space in your home, reducing the need to purchase organisational tools and storage boxes to maximise space in your home or to rent storage units to make space for all of your belongings.

Ridding your home of clutter will also allow you to familiarise yourself with your existing belongings, preventing you from having to waste money on buying duplicates.

"One man's trash is another man's treasure." Apart from helping you to save some money, decluttering might even allow you to make some money from selling some of your old clothes, household items, books and other belongings.

3. Your cleaning time will now be a fraction of what it used to be

The less clutter you have, the easier it'll be to finish cleaning your home. Cleaning will thus become much more enjoyable, potentially encouraging you to clean your home more regularly, to maintain both its cleanliness and tidiness. Most importantly, decluttering will leave less room (and surfaces) for dust to settle, improving the air quality in your home.

4. Make time (and energy) for other things

With less clutter lying around, it's going to much easier to look for your things. Gone are the days of going into all the nooks and crannies of your home to look for all the small little knick-knacks that you've stuffed into the corners of your home. You'll no longer have to go through all your belongings, saving lots of time and energy for other activities, increasing your productivity and efficiency.

5. Rediscover lost treasures
