Parents: 5 Stay-Home Activities To Keep Your Child Entertained

Running out of ideas to keep your children entertained at home? Well, HipVan’s got you covered! Here are 5 activities you can do together with your children at home, to keep them both entertained and stimulated:

1. Create your family’s very own garden

Gardening is a simple activity that you can do together with your kids, and one that offers a wide array of benefits! Apart from providing an opportunity for your children to spend some time with nature, gardening also allows children to develop their fine motor skills, contributing to improvements in their concentration and learning capabilities.

Gardening can also be a fun and interactive way for children to learn some basic math and science concepts (e.g. counting, understanding the life cycle of plants). Other benefits of gardening also include: the development of a sense of responsibility, patience as well as the promotion of healthy eating habits.

Similar to gardening, cooking and baking offer a wide range of benefits for children, such as the development of their fine motor skills. Cooking and baking are also fun ways for children to develop their cognitive skills  such as counting, measuring and listening to instructions and their language abilities.

Baking, in particular, is also a perfect avenue for children to develop their creativity. Giving children the opportunity to decorate their baked goods is definitely a fun way for them to express their creativity.

For parents with fussy eaters, you'd definitely be familiar with the struggle at mealtimes to encourage your child to finish up their food, much less to introduce new foods to them. Well, look no further because we've got a solution for you! Involving your children in the cooking and baking process can be a great way to engage fussy eaters and encourage them to eat their food. Allowing them to take part in the food preparation process can help them to develop a sense of accomplishment and pride, increasing the likelihood that they will eat (and finish) whatever they helped to make.

3. Beat the heat with popsicles

Another fun activity to try out with your children is to make some popsicles. Apart from being a perfect way to beat the Singapore heat, popsicles are also a healthy treat for either a midday snack or dessert.

Family exercising together in the living room.

It’s no secret that children have lots of energy. Incorporating some physical exercise is a perfect way to burn some of this limitless energy, whilst also keeping your children healthy, killing two birds with one stone. It's also a great way to guarantee a good night's rest, both for you and your child.

Kid-friendly workout videos are aplenty on Youtube. A particularly popular form of exercise for children is yoga. It's no surprise, given the numerous benefits it offers such as an improved concentration, greater strength and flexibility as well as an increased sense of calmness and relaxation.
