  • Our 5-room resale flat is a 25 year old 1,313 sqft space in the north-east of Singapore. We fell in love with the space because even though it is a low-floor unit, we get a lot of breeze and mainly face greenery so it feels private.
  • The original layout is quite squarish and functional, with no wasted corridor space. There are a couple of angled corners in the rooms which were slightly challenging to plan around but we made it work to our advantage in the new layout. Can you guess what are the major changes we made to the floor plan?
  • The first big change we made was to add another angled corner to the study and add a glass panel in this new wall to open up the space. This made the study slightly smaller but the living room (and now indoor balcony) much more spacious.
  • From our living room, we can now see the full view of our study, dining space, island and kitchen.
  • This is the view from the angled glass panel in our study. It allows us to keep an eye out on our dogs during dog sitting days.
  • The second big change we made was to cut out a section of the guest bedroom to make space for a 6-panel wardrobe in the master bedroom! This created a walk-in closet concept and a very private sleeping area in the room.
  • The third big change was our toilet - we combined our common and master toilets into 1 mega toilet because the master toilet was quite small on its own.
  • We now have a large shower area, long counter top and a hotel toilet experience every time we need to do toilet business!
  • The mega toilet was a controversial decision, and we put a lot of thought into making sure the layout made sense. We even built it out in a free design software to visualize it. So far no regrets and no issues with having only 1 toilet in the house!
