  • Welcome to our home, a 5-room BTO spanning 112 sqm in Tengah! Since this is our first home, we took a cautious approach to the design, opting against built-ins because we weren’t entirely sure of our style and preferences. Instead, we focused on flexibility, choosing pieces that allow us to experiment and adjust as we settle in.
  • When we were choosing the unit for our first home, we specifically wanted one with the bomb shelter at the side to allow for an open-concept kitchen. The only change we made to the layout was sealing up the door to bedroom 2, which created a larger master bedroom.
  • Our theme is cosy minimalist with a touch of nordic style. We focused on cream and nude tones, complemented by black accents to create a warm and inviting atmosphere.
  • Our TV console is a solid 2.4m long, and if you are considering one this size, think twice! It actually got stuck in our lift, and we couldn’t bring it up at first. We had to remove the wooden crate and lift it up diagonally to make it fit.
  • Stepping into our home begins with the entryway, and we wanted this small but significant space to immediately feel welcoming. We didn’t go too elaborate here, but we paid attention to creating a warm first impression by first concealing the hideous bomb shelter door. The thought of having that eyesore right by the entrance wasn’t something we could live with, so we hid it behind sleek panels that blend right in with the rest of our design. After all, this is where we would be kicking off our shoes after a long day, and it’s the first glimpse our friends and family would get of our home.
  • Just beside the concealed bomb shelter door, we added more storage for shoes and a thoughtfully designed niche. This niche became the perfect spot for the things we grab often such as our keys and everyday essentials, and a spot to display a few pictures. To give it that extra something, we lined the niche with soft LED strips. The subtle glow adds warmth and a touch of sophistication, making the space not just practical but also inviting and cosy.
  • We also upgraded to an electronic door lock, choosing Luxus for its sleek look and ease of use. It's been a game-changer; not having to carry keys anymore is definitely a perk we appreciate every day.
  • We made a bold choice by sealing up the door to bedroom 2 and combining it with our master to create a larger space. Now, bedroom 2 serves as our sleeping room, while the master has transformed into a walk-in wardrobe. The reason behind this decision was simple: we wake up at different times for work, and we didn’t want to disturb the other when getting ready. By separating the sleeping area from the wardrobe, we have found a way to keep things peaceful in the mornings.
  • We went with a mesh router system for our WiFi, and having three routers has made such a difference in keeping the signal strong everywhere. Placing one on top of our aircon trunking was one of those ideas that seemed minor at first, but we are so glad we planned for it during renovation!
  • This is our walk-in wardrobe, and, yes, it looks pretty extreme—it has a grand total of 9 doors! It may seem like a lot, but with the amount of clothes we have, it’s exactly what we needed to keep everything organised.
  • We weren't fans of the doors HDB provided, so we swapped them out for fluted doors. They bring a bit of character to the space and suit our style much better!
  • Here’s a look at our master toilet! We took a bit of a gamble by ordering a huge storage mirror from Taobao, but it arrived in perfect condition. It even has an LED light running along the bottom and an anti-fog function. Our vanity is from Taobao as well! We specifically wanted drawers instead of cupboards, and finding a nice, affordable option in Singapore turned out to be a real challenge.
  • One of the quirkiest decisions we made was opting out of a door between the two rooms. We are admittedly a bit lazy, and having a door felt like an extra step to deal with when we are half-asleep in the morning. If you are wondering whether the aircon flows out and makes the room less cold — don’t worry, it doesn’t!
  • For our bed, we opted for a storage bed because it gives us extra space to hide away unwanted items. It's a practical solution that helps keep the room tidy and organised.
  • Our dream kitchen is designed as an open concept space, which is something we really wanted since we didn’t have that in our family home. While we don’t cook much, the open layout allows us to enjoy the area without feeling cramped or confined. It’s great for entertaining and spending time together, even if it’s just enjoying a cup of coffee at the island.
  • That said, we have also thought ahead. If we decide to close it off in the future, we have already catered space for doors. We left a gap beside the fridge and moved the power socket to the other side of the smaller wall, making it easy to create that separation if we want to. It’s all about flexibility for us, and we love having that option! Also, having a fan in the kitchen is a must for us, especially with Singapore’s warm and humid weather. It helps keep the air circulating and makes cooking much more comfortable. Thanks for enjoying our house tour! See you on our next :)
