  • Hi there! I’m currently 24 and shifted into this 5-room HDB flat with my family last year. I have always had my own room since I became a teenager, so it was very important for me to have my personal space even after downgrading from a condominium, especially because I am really introverted.
  • As seen from my nickname, I’m a cat lover.
  • I have incorporated some cat furniture so try spot them around my room!
  • Here is an overview of my room, a place of comfort, where I relax and wind down, and where I experience a wide array of emotions.
  • The first thing you will see when you enter my room is a cat tower that reaches all the way to the ceiling. My family adopted a pair of mother and daughter cats, and throughout the pictures here, you will see the daughter, Stockings, appearing occasionally. While the cats belong to my family, they hang out more often in my room, and thus my room has been converted into a semi-cat playroom. Cats love heights and therefore my sister and I installed a cat tree for them to reach the top.

  • Going to the left is my wardrobe and my desk. My desk is huge because I work from home three out of five days a week, and I need a monitor as a second display. The table was built-in and has three drawers, perfect for me to keep all my memorabilia and gifts that I have received from my family and friends. I like to keep as many little things on it as possible as I do not like the feeling of a cluttered room.
  • Above my desk, I have a display area where I put out my collection of religious figurines, K-pop dolls, and dried flowers. The overhead display also has a light which I usually turn on at night before I sleep. I try to keep minimal lights on at night as it helps me to sleep better that way.
  • Moving on to my sleeping area, I have a super single sized bed. I’ve always had a platform bed with a mattress, as this design helps me to change my bedsheet easily, and the extra storage below is extremely useful to keep our luggage, extra pillows, etc. My bed is aligned right next to the wall so I get lots of sunlight, which helps me to wake up in the day. During the weekends, I pull down the blinds so that I can sleep in more.
  • My windows are also grilled up with 1.5 inch invisible grills for the safety of my cats. This is extremely important for cat owners as cats are known to be easily distracted and may potentially jump out of windows when distracted, leading to their death (also known as high-rise syndrome).
  • Above my head post, I pasted some pictures taken with a film camera to liven up the walls. These pictures were taken by my boyfriend, who is an avid photographer. I intended for this wall to look like a feature wall, cluttered aesthetically with posters and pictures, something similar to what Linh Truong has. However, I think this suffices for now, and I might consider putting up posters of motivational quotes in the future.
  • Next to my bed are more cat-related items - a newly bought cat house and a round scratcher. My cats like to sleep in the cat house in the day and sit on the round scratcher whenever she’s awake. Having my cats next to me when I sleep gives me a huge sense of security and honestly helps me to sleep better.
  • Right infront of my bed I have another scratch post for my cat to climb onto so that she can look out the window. They like to take turns sitting at the top, watching their ‘cat TV’. I also have a TV console area that is connected to Chromecast. Whenever a family member is watching TV in the living room, I have the option of coming into my room to watch my drama. It also doubles as a huge screen for me to watch my favourite YouTubers. The distance from my bed to the TV is just right, and I usually turn on the TV at night before I sleep to wind down. This TV console also has many drawers, which again is helpful for me to keep my K-pop albums, skincare products, etc. I pasted some of my favourite polaroid pictures of my friends to liven up my wall.
  • Next to my TV is my dressing area which is relatively small compared to many who have a designated dressing table. I do not put too heavy make-up and therefore a small area for me to do my skincare routine is sufficient for me. My products are placed in the drawer on the right, convenient for me to take them out while I sit infront of the mirror to do my routine. My room is cosy and simple, and is the place I spend the most time in whenever I’m home. I also use warm light instead of cool light to help bring out the colour scheme of my room. I find that I have divided the different parts of the room well for various purposes, which helps to draw the line when I should be working and relaxing. Thank you for checking out my room!
