Our unit didn't come with a service yard. This meant that our kitchen had to double up as one. The best spot for this was therefore at the end of the room where the windows were. As we didn't install upper cabinets at the "kitchen" side, we did so at the "service yard" side. These cabinets house all the stuff related to laundry like hangers, detergents etc. 
We initially thought about getting a dryer but the Steigen automated laundry system changed our minds. We've always preferred to dry our clothes naturally so this product suited us the best. We don't worry about rainy days anymore as the system has a heating function, which could also help to get rid of any smell from our cooking, although we really don't do a lot of heavy cooking. 
The Steigen in action. We are amazed at how much weight this thing can handle. We could hang our bedding set together with our regular laundry without any problem. An added bonus is that it provides an extra lighting option in case our spotlights are out of order. Our "service yard" is both functional & aesthetically pleasing. This has made doing laundry a little more enjoyable.
