  • Our balcony has a total different look and feel to the rest of the house. We wanted the place to be more fun and chill, just like a café! The original balcony was semi-outdoor, with only a row of standard-height windows and a metal shutter installed by the previous owner. We transformed it into an indoor space by removing the shutter and installing a full-height window.
  • One of the most special features of an executive maisonette is its high ceiling, at the stairwell and the balcony. While original plan for balconies are usually used as laundry areas, we felt it would be such a waste of this beautiful space. So, we reconfigured a space for laundry, leaving the balcony fairly empty for more fun activities and relaxation. One crazy item on our wishlist was an arch window, but our ID advised us that it would be almost impossible due to HDB regulations and the high cost. Even these standard windows were already quite expensive, so we scrapped the idea. However, we still loved the arch shape, so we brainstormed a solution: a false ceiling partition with an arch design near the window. This clever idea allowed us to incorporate the arch aesthetic we wanted while complying with HDB regulations. We also installed two wall lights on the partition for added ambiance. Plus, the partition conveniently hides our automated blind when it's rolled up.
  • Since our apartment lacks a standard storeroom, we addressed storage needs by incorporating carpentry throughout the home. On one side of the balcony, we added lots of cabinet and with the full windows installed, we no longer have to worry about rain ruining the carpentry.
  • A slim profile cabinet designed specifically to cover the rubbish chute.
  • Near the window, we set up a small gardening area, along with a high table and stools, giving us a perfect spot to chill and unwind with a view.
  • To create a cozy café vibe, we opted for blue patterned tiles that make the whole space feel lively and inviting. The drop down in level from our living room allow us to have messy activity like water play without worrying about water flowing into our living room!
  • We installed two sliding doors to contain aircon in our living space: one between the service yard and kitchen, and another between the balcony and living room. We chose synchronised sliding doors for ease of use, with a lattice design to complete the look.
  • Our sliding door neatly tucked behind the wall when fully open.
  • Waterplay day for the kids & Saturday dimsum breakfast in the balcony!
  • This is also one of Kody's favourite spot to chill too! Thanks for sticking around! We hope you found some inspiration and ideas for your own dream home through our sharing! Connect with us on Instagram and Tiktok @hausofjely
