Welcome in! We're @dk.lair, and this is our 45 year old resale 3-room nook where our family of 4 (including our 2 lovable cats) call home. Our home blends a dark minimalist aesthetic with Japandi touches, where we try to make the most of natural materials, muted tones, and clean lines. To escape the monotony and claustrophobia of a small home, we kept each aspect and space toned down, using objects and loose furniture to add character. Sliding doors allow for privacy and practicality when wanting to segment the expanded living space into two, to allow a dining space and the living space to become two and the same. This dining/study, anchored by a smoked walnut table and chair set, also functions as a dining room - a cosy one too, especially when the large wood doors are drawn shut, creating our own private dining experience, with a nook for displaying art and decor collections. Carpentry played a huge part in contributing to our 70k renovation cost, and rightly so, because it creates much-needed space for storage and organization in a house with no storeroom and a kitchen free of top-hung cabinets. Floor-to-ceiling utilization ensures every inch is maximised! We also intentionally used the same laminates to ensure continuity throughout the home. Microcement walls applied by hand across every inch gives our kitchen wall a unique look that cannot be replicated. Without top-hung cabinets we achieve a clutter-free look that gives us a spacious feel. Connecting the living space to the kitchen, this stretch of wall showcases some heartfelt memories in times past. A marble vase, quartz top and timber cabinets are a nod to the use of natural materials across the home, creating a warm amber vibe. The recessed fridge, oven and washing machine reduce the space needed to achieve a functional yet space-maximizing kitchen in an elongated thruway that brings us from the living space to the back of the home, where the washroom is located. Transiting from the sliding wood panels to the bedroom, an inset light encased in textured leather laminate demarcates the living and bedroom entry, where a hidden door gives access to the bedroom. The bedroom where we rest our heads also highlights the only permanent feature built for the cats. The tiny archway allows the cats free access in and out of the bedroom from the living area, and vice versa. Being the only washroom in the house, we intentionally segregated the shower and the toilet within the same space to achieve privacy during simultaneous use.
