  • Welcome to our modern minimalist home! After consulting over 10 interior designers, we realized that renovating a resale house would be way too expensive. Our house is 35 years old and needs a lot of work, and we're the fourth owners. So, to cut a long story short, since we already knew what we wanted from our experience with our previous house, we decided to hire a direct contractor. My husband, being an engineer who knows all about electrical stuff, decided to search for a direct contractor on Carousell. We all know good things can be found on Carousell, right? Haha! He found one—a group of Bangladeshi worker. They did an amazing job and worked so quickly that they completed all the hacking, rewiring, plastering, painting, and installing the false ceiling in just 3 weeks! In less than a month, our house was transformed from 0 to 50%! For the remaining 50% of the work, we hired another direct contractor who had worked on our first matrimonial home. He handled all the carpentry work, like the kitchen cabinets, TV console, and feature wall. He also installed a glass panel between the entryway and the living room.
  • Here's a wide-angle shot to give you a clearer picture. This is how the entrance and living room look. We built a glass and wood panel in between to add a bit of privacy when we leave the door open during the day. This way, people outside can't see much inside.
  • As you can clearly see, we went for an all-white look in our living room. It's been almost a year now, and of course, we've learned a few lessons about having an all-white space with kids. -Firstly, white furniture and walls are prone to stains and marks from spills, dirty hands, and everyday activities. Keeping everything looking clean requires a lot of regular maintenance. -Secondly, scratches and scuffs are more noticeable on white surfaces, especially with active kids around. -Lastly, it can be challenging to maintain the bright, fresh look of white furniture as it tends to show wear and tear more quickly. Despite these challenges, we still love the clean and airy feel of our white living room. We've just had to get creative with solutions like washable slipcovers, stain-resistant fabrics, and easy-to-clean surfaces.
  • Another thing we love about this house layout is that the dining area faces the living room. It's super convenient and practical for us to have our meals while watching our favorite movies. It's also great for gatherings, as people can sit at the dining area while others fill the space in the living room
  • Our dining area is also situated right beside the entrance door, and we’ve found several benefits to this layout. Firstly, it makes unloading groceries and setting the table super convenient, as you can easily transfer items from the door straight to the dining area. Secondly, it creates a natural flow for entertaining guests—people can move seamlessly from the entryway to the dining area, making it easier to host dinners and gatherings.
  • This is a simple decor for the entryway. It's mainly designed for the kids to put on their socks and school shoes.
  • There is always a time for dessert and coffee here - while enjoying the view and greenery outside.
  • We also added a power outlet here so we can plug in and charge our vacuum. Properly setting up your power points makes your home more functional and safer. Install power points near where you use appliances and electronics, so you don’t need long cords. Also, spread out outlets to prevent overloading any one circuit, which helps avoid power issues. And with that, I'll wrap up this post. Thanks for taking the time to read it, and see you in the next one!
