  • Welcome to our dining room. Usually, a typical maisonette setting will have its dining table placed at the entrance of the home near to the staircase. The high ceiling area will then either be the laundry area or extension of the kitchen. Looking at the high ceiling, we immediately had an idea of dropping down a pendant lamp all the way from the top to make it into the centre piece of our dining room. We do not want to waste the potential of the high ceiling and give it to activities like laundry. We rather have gatherings there and enjoy the high ceiling and tall windows.
  • Here’s a picture of our dining room when taken at night. This is the place where it is more than just meals. The idea is to create this space into a dual function. Besides meals, this is also the place we bond together with family, friends and relatives over board and card games like scrabble, monopoly, UNO etc. We placed a bookshelf we got when we were in Malaysia a few years ago and stuffed everything there. We called it organised mess where we chucked all games and other knick-knacks. We love hosting and having guests over, that’s why this is one of the things in our home renovation checklist.
  • We love the high ceiling and the tall windows. Not forgetting the pendant lamp that we got online. There’s plenty of stuffs we got online and not from the shelves. It really helped us save a lot! However, you need to invest in a lot of time to search and compare the designs and prices.
  • So here is the bookshelf. We got it in Malaysia a few years ago when we were residing there due to work commitments. It was from a home furnishing brand called SFF. We weren’t sure where to place the bookshelf initially until we realized that it will be great product to store all the board and card games. We also placed other knick-knacks like collectibles, pictures, long-service awards etc. on the bookshelf. It is messy, but we like it that way. Also, it is functional.
  • Of course, we cannot leave the dining table empty and lonely. We need to give it some love, but not too much. We placed a tray, vase with artificial flowers, tissue box that fits the look & feel and a candle. We will lit up the candle whenever there are guest coming. Everything on the tray so that it is easier to remove them when we need the full table for meals or games. To add a soft touch to it, we added the table runner, bearing in mind to not cover the whole table as we still want to highlight the beauty of the grains.
  • Before the renovation, we created mood boards for every corner of the home and realized that we need to enhanced the high ceiling. Initially, the project was about having every corner as an OOTD worthy spots. Therefore, we decided that we cannot leave the wall plain white and went for the brick tiles solution. It helps to elongated the wall. We went to Hafary thinking that how hard can it be to choose tiles. We were definitely wrong. We were spoilt for choices and ended up spending hours and hours there until we finally decided to go for this grey brick tiles.
