  • We're back with a tour of our master bedroom! Our bedroom fulfils 2 functions : sleeping & working. This is because there is no extra room to set up the home office & knocking down walls is not an option. Despite these challenges, we've managed to carved out a small walk-in wardrobe & still have enough space for the work desk & other furniture! Needless to say we had to be precise in our measurements.
  • Throughout the house, we've tried to use natural materials as far as possible. The mattress is made of 100% latex, the sheets & the curtains are 100% linen. We did not opt for blackouts as we prefer to wake up to natural sunlight. Using linen also gives the room a lighter & more relax feel. The teak nightstands are Danish design vintage from the 60s.
  • My little home office. The old solid teak desk was a great deal from Carousell. Initially it came with a formica top which I had someone removed and then had the whole desk resanded & revarnished to restore it to its former glory, well almost. Its origin was unknown but most probably made locally or around the region. You might have found the table lamp a little familiar. Yes it is the Anglepoise lamp that had inspired the Pixar lamp. Another classic design we love! As space is tight around the room, we've chosen to use the Wishbone chair from Carl Hansen. It is of the right size & is relatively light so it doesn't get in the way at all. It is also surprisingly comfortable as I could sit on it for hours without feeling tired. The handmade wool rug was another great find from Carousell. We have used a number of handmade wool rugs around the house. Firstly they help to protect the wood floor, secondly they help to demarcate the space and of course they're also aesthetically pleasing.
  • Another piece of vintage furniture from the 60s. A Danish Rosewood bookcase bought from a local mid century Scandinavian vintage furniture dealer. This was actually meant for another room but we had a miscalculation of a couple of millimetres so it ended up in our room. Luckily we were able to fit it in.
  • A view of our walk-in wardrobe right outside the bathroom. This is a customizable pole system wardrobe. You can choose to enclose it or leave it open. We chose the former so as to keep the dust out & also to get that 'walk-in' effect. The fluted glass doors were chosen to try to brighten up the room.
  • This is a reproduction print of The Kiss by Gustav Klimt. We felt that the yellow hues of the painting would go well with the colour palette of the room. Plus it is a work about love & intimacy which suited a couple's bedroom perfectly.
  • Finally it's time to rest. To make life a little easier, we've installed a 3-way switch on both sides of the bed to control the pendant lamp. No more getting out of bed just to turn off the light and then finding your way back in the dark! Hope you've enjoyed the tour as much as I've enjoyed writing it. Until next time!
