  • Welcome to our humble nest! We are a couple living with our cat, Daikon, who's sure to make an appearance in some of our posts. Keep an eye out — you never know when she'll pop up in the background! As we open our home and showcase the little treasures within, we hope you feel the warmth and love that fills our heart. After all, our handle is @hellokokoro, where "kokoro" means heart! *** Today, we'll be showcasing our entryway! This area warmly welcomes guests with its blend of country and modern elements. The solid pine barn door and wall panels are the key features in our home, anchoring the modern farmhouse theme.
  • The full-length mirror is a practical addition to the entryway, allowing for last-minute checks before heading out!
  • The barn door is not only a standout feature but also highly functional, seamlessly concealing out bomb shelter. Its sliding mechanism makes accessing the shelter effortless compared to a heavy swing door. We've also hang our caps by attaching magnetic hooks to the bomb shelter door, making it easy to organise and access them.
  • Here's a front view with the sliding door open.
  • You might be wondering whether our main door collides with the sliding barn door when both are opened. Fortunately, we installed a semicircle door stopper that allows both doors to open simultaneously without any accidents, as seen in the pictures above! While this prevents our main door from opening a full 90 degrees, we've never encountered any issues moving large furnitures, including our piano, massage chair, and king-size bed.
  • The wood slits above the sliding door cleverly conceal the bomb shelter vent, which cannot be sealed up. This design choice maintains the required ventilation while integrating the vent into the modern farmhouse aesthetic. The chinese couplets, which read " 主爱帝随 恩曲满满“ meaning, "The Lord's love follows, and His grace abounds" are a meaningful reminder for us as a Catholic family.
  • Since we've angled the wall for the TV, we wanted to make the most of the slim dead space. Behind some of the panels, we created a slim niche with a tic-tac door to store masks, tissues, and some books!
  • Now let's turn our attention to our shoe cabinet area! Adorning the wall is a wood cut-out sign with ginkgo leaves and the chinese character "福" which stands for fortune. We like how the natural design complements the grey textured wall. Beneath it, we have a fluted wooden shoe cabinet which overlaps an arch mirror, enhancing its depth and providing stability, while simultaneously visually opening up the entire space.
  • The vertical slats on the shoe cabinet add visual interest and provide ventilation, while the warm wood tone creates a cozy vibe. We opted for a standalone shoe cabinet instead of a built-in to maximize space. We also realised that despite owning many pairs of shoes previously, we typically rotate between just a few, making this design a practical choice for us. This cabinet can accommodate 18-20 pairs of shoes, excluding those displayed in the open riche at the bottom, which is perfect for frequently worn pairs.
  • The sleek gold knobs on the shoe cabinet elevate the design, adding a modern and stylish touch.
  • The side of the cabinet features wooden hooks that provide convenient hanging storage for small hanging items. It is right at the doorway so it's especially handy for us to grab our umbrellas when we head out!
  • We appreciate how the bamboo rattan arch mirror captures and reflects various elements of the house from different angles. The shoe cabinet in front of it features a raised back that prevents items from falling behind. Spot our homepod speaker resting on an adorable snail-shaped holder here! While our home features earthly colors as the main theme, you'll notice that we incorporate pops of color through various loose items throughout the space.
  • Let's not forget our charming touches peppered around the house — like this wooden cat perched atop the base of our display plant on the shoe cabinet. Finding joy in the little things!
  • At the base of the mirror, we added a cream flat-woven rug that not only helps with adding stability to the mirror but enhances the space with an inviting feel. We folded the rug in half to showcase more tassels! The sheep is actually a doorstopper. We think it fits perfectly here at the entryway of our home, adding a playful touch to the farmhouse aesthetic. That wraps up our entryway post! We hope you enjoy it and be sure to check out our other posts showcasing different areas of our home. Stay tuned for more updates!
