  • We took a while to decide our entryway layout - we had originally wanted to go with customised carpentry to conceal the bomb shelter, but unfortunately the gap we have is pretty narrow, which means that we can't really have much storage in our carpentry. That's why we ended up going with painting the door in an arch shape to match the other arches in our home. We also placed a an arch shaped mirror beside it and we can also see our arch door in the mirror. Haha arches overload!
  • Getting the arch shape painting right was not easy. We had several rounds of rectifications with the painter. The first time the arch shape was too narrow and it looked quite odd.
  • The second time the curvature just didn't seem right...
  • and eventually, we landed at something that we were quite satisfied with. This is our attempt to cover the ugly bomb shelter door with paint, much cheaper than customising carpentry. Although sometimes we really wished our bomb shelter is in the kitchen instead.
  • Here's how our entryway looks from our dining table. Had originally wanted to fill up the space between the two doors, but the actual space felt a bit smaller than expected.
  • At the other side of the entryway, it's the standard DB box area from HDB. We didn't do anything to the exterior...
  • ... but added some shelves in the interior so we can put in some shoes and knick knacks. This will definitely not be enough to put all your shoes, but we put some of the more commonly used ones here.
  • For the switches right at the door, we went with a retro black-brass switch. Secretly loving the sound it makes when switching on and off things haha
