  • We are a family with 2 young children (below age of 5) trying to maintain the aesthetics of a Japandi colour palette because mummy has #priorities. Our living room has no TV because (i) kids aren't allowed screen time and (ii) it's a communal space to get together and have conversations. Storage is also key. The rule in the house is, any toy is that is left out of the storage boxes by the end of the night will be given away. We love these fabric storage boxes from Taobao. Another tip - choose a neutral looking playmat that doesn't look out of place in the house and yet, doesn't make the living room feel like it has been overtaken by the kids.
  • Unlike most houses, our kitchen is on the top floor. Therefore, for practical needs (because ain't nobody has time to be going upstairs every time we need drinks or a chocolate bar), we created a dry kitchen area with a sink, an island, water filter and a fridge. Our island bar stools and sofa were both from Taobao and customised. Both are made of material that allows us to wipe down and clean any stains which is imperative for the Japandi colour palette. Unfortunately, the sofa is no longer available from the Taobao vendor.
  • We have a semi-smart home because #budget. We use a Google Nest hub that is connected to the Google Nest doorbell which enables us to see who's outside and a smart switch to open the gate from different parts of the house. The Google Nest hub also works as an intercom that allows us to broadcast messages to the other Google Nest hub units in the house (we have one on each floor).
