  • Welcome! This is our simple entryway with a shoe cabinet on the right. We initially wanted to demarcate the space with different tiles, but my husband decided against it. In hindsight, having uniform flooring throughout was a good choice.
  • Here's a look at our built-in shoe cabinet, which also houses the DB box. The original homeowner placed the DB box here, and our interior designer kept it that way. We limited our shoes to this space, using the same organisers from Taobao that we had in our first house to keep it tidy. We have two shoe boxes on top: one for miscellaneous dust bags we use when traveling and another for my husband's chalky rock climbing shoes.
  • In the previous photo, you can see a white box where we store worn socks. We don't mix socks with our regular laundry, so we put them here when we return home and wash them separately once the box is full. Next to the white box, we have a thirsty hippo dehumidifier and two handy tools: a deodoriser for spraying the inner soles of shoes and a foam shoe cleaner. The shoe cleaner, in particular, is an absolute gem.
  • Another super handy tool I use daily is a shoehorn. I love its magnetic holder and slim design, allowing me to place it on the inside of the shoe cabinet door while still being able to close it nicely.
  • On the side of the shoe cabinet, we placed the remote control for unlocking our gate. We positioned it away from the gate to prevent easy access by strangers. The switch here controls the ceiling downlight in our entryway.
  • From our entrance, you can see a settee integrated with the large statement carpentry that extends into the main part of the house. We requested an area from our interior designer where we could place our bags after work or shopping and sit to put on our shoes. This settee serves that purpose perfectly, and as a bonus, it also includes storage.
  • Under the settee, we have a pull-out drawer that houses our socks and some foldable eco bags. It is organised with three IKEA organisers, separating my husband's long socks, his ankle socks, and my socks.
  • We are really maximising storage here. This spacious storage area is currently under-utilised, except for housing our Xiaomi dust mite vacuum.
  • Ending the post with an imperfect DIY project that has been my best buy because it works. I hate creepy crawlies, especially lizards. Despite trying various lizard deterrents and traps outside the house, nothing worked as well as a door seal. Initially, I bought a styrofoam door seal, but it was too thick (creating some floor scratching sound) for the main door. So, I switched to a PVC door seal, and this combination works miracles. We haven't had any lizards enter to date (fingers crossed). I'm very happy with the purchase and highly recommend it if you don't want to spend more on fancy automatic door seals.
  • Oh, and in case you're wondering, we left our bomb shelter exposed to avoid encroaching on the narrow entryway. We simply painted it white and replaced the rusty vent on top with a sleeker design. However, we were informed that we must keep the original HDB vent when reinstating the house for resale purposes. That's all for today! Stay tuned to our next post, next week. :)
