  • Hi HipVan! We’re your homies, also known as @houganghomies 👋🏻 Inspired by homey hotel vibes, we’ve (tried our best to) blend dark contemporary styles with a touch of warmth. It’s our way of creating our own cosy retreat amidst the bustle 🏠 Welcome to a day in our kitchen! It’s where morning coffee meets quick lunches and grocery trips turn to quiet dinners. Sticking with our theme, our kitchen features a cool grey laminate paired with a walnut brown KompacPlus on our counters and backsplash for a seamless look and touch of warm cosiness. We wanted to share with you how our open-concept kitchen changes from day to night and how we designed it to match our homey life.
  • Good morning from our dry pantry! After knocking down the kitchen wall to create this expanded space, we now have the perfect spot for the coffee corner that we’ve always wanted. We keep our stash of coffee pods next to our Nespresso coffee machine for quick access to our daily dose of caffeine. This little corner is all about convenience and comfort.
  • It’s lunchtime and we’re heating up some leftovers at our ‘hidden’ kitchen niche, tucked around the corner from our dry pantry. There’s a structural beam here that couldn’t be moved so we turned this awkward space into a handy spot for storing our larger appliances and chopping board.
  • We love how this design keeps our chonky air fryer, rice cooker and microwave out of sight, maintaining a neat look in the kitchen, minimizing clutter on the countertops.
  • Turning into our kitchen, you can see how our dry pantry and main kitchen flow together, thanks to a sleek curved edge that creates a seamless connection. We love how the space is easily divided to keep the main kitchen dedicated to cooking and prepping, but we're also able to effortlessly move from one space to another.
  • Our custom-made island counter is an absolute game-changer in our kitchen! Here's a different view of how our island fits into our kitchen.
  • We just did a grocery trip and this is our go-to spot for unloading and organizing everything we bought. The extra counter space is a lifesaver, allowing us to sort through our groceries without feeling cramped. We also love how it’s a cosy spot that has a direct view of the TV, allowing us to catch up on our favourite shows while prepping. It’s a multi-taskers’ dream so we can unpack and binge-watch at the same time.
  • After unpacking groceries, it’s time to cook dinner in our main kitchen, where we do all our heavy cooking! Sticking with our dark contemporary theme, we put in the sleek black induction stove and hood from Mayer. For efficiency and ease, our Samsung fridge is conveniently located right next to the stove, making it a breeze to grab ingredients and sauces as we cook.
  • Remember the curved corner? It also serves as our prep area when we need more space for meals that require heavy cooking.
  • After dinner, we spend some time cleaning up and putting away all the cooking utensils and sauces that we’ve used. This is how it looks when we’re not cooking! We’ve allocated storage spaces in the cupboards above and below for all our cooking necessities and keep only garlic and onions on the counter.
  • Cleaning up is also easier with our sink right next to the stove! One feature we absolutely love is our flexible water hose kitchen tap. While pull-out taps can sometimes tug harshly, we decided to opt for a flexible hose that allows us to reach every corner of the sink easily.
  • And that’s a day in our kitchen! We wanted to create a functional space that catered to our cooking habits while still embracing our minimal approach with a personal touch. P.S Did you spot our little Popmart figures in the kitchen too? If you’re curious about how we’re trying to keep things minimal but with a personal twist, check out our previous HipVan post on our Living Room. Also, stay tuned to spot more Popmarts around the house in our upcoming posts too!
