  • Our entryway is designed as a welcoming haven, a transition space where the outside world is left behind, and a sense of home is immediately felt. We carefully incorporated feng shui principles to ensure that the energy flowing through this space is calming and harmonious. The goal for our entryway was clear: to create a space that embodies safety, warmth, and comfort. As we cross this threshold, we consciously leave behind the stresses and worries of the outside world, entering a sanctuary that feels uniquely ours. Here, we can truly unwind, feeling embraced by the familiarity of home—a place where peace and positivity reign. One thing that we could have done to help elevate the space is to wrap our door in a new colour/design. However since it was not essential, we have left that decision aside for now.
  • Photos of our cherished moments are thoughtfully arranged, each image capturing the essence of our journey together. These personal touches not only evoke fond memories but also reinforce the feeling of being grounded and connected as we step through the door.
  • At the top of our shelf is an auspicious spot reserved for feng shui elements like Fu Lu Shou. We’ve placed souvenirs from Japanese temples here as a symbolic gesture, hoping that these deities will protect us from harm and keep our home harmonious. Some might question our choices, but we firmly believe in their significance, especially after consulting a feng shui master. After all, once you’ve paid for the advice, you’ve got to follow it, right? Haha! In the far right corner, you'll notice a small white gadget—our Aqara motion sensor. This device automatically turns on the lights as soon as it detects motion, ensuring that we always come home to a well-lit space, never stepping into darkness.
  • For reference, this was the previous state of the house, where the design was entirely different. One significant change we didn’t anticipate was how dark the entryway could be without the lights on. However, to create the cozy and warm ambiance we envisioned, we decided against using bright white LED lights. Instead, we opted for a softly lit mirror that not only reflects light and positive energy throughout the space but also enhances the warmth within. Additionally, this mirror doubles as a functional seating area where we can comfortably put on our shoes and socks, making it both practical and inviting.
  • This is how our home entrance looks now. A quick observation is that the corridor slightly narrows as it approaches the front door. In Feng Shui, this reduction in space isn’t ideal, as the preference is for everything to be wide, bright, and airy. To address this and for practical reasons, we’ve kept the area clean and minimalist to avoid clutter. Whether it’s for Feng Shui or just good design, this approach works perfectly for my husband, who prefers a tidy space. My ideas for adding a grass carpet or wooden planks were quickly vetoed—cleanliness won the day!
  • One detail we decided on was removing the 30cm metal plate at the bottom of our gate. My husband pointed out that unlike HDB gates, where the plate is often necessary to keep the floors clean during powerwashing, gates in condos or private estates typically don’t have this feature, allowing a clear view of the floor. Since our main door remains closed most of the time, we felt that the bottom plate wasn’t necessary for us.
  • Last but not least, if you look closely, you'll notice the pipes hidden behind these bamboo shoots that I crafted myself. This design choice has received many compliments for concealing the water pipes while adding another layer of depth to the entrance. I initially bought these bamboo shoots from Taobao for our common bathroom, but later decided against using them there due to space and cleanliness considerations. I'm glad they found a perfect home here instead!
