Just focus on the view: Our simple service yard

  • Our home is a HDB resale and the service yard is one of the biggest reasons why we bought the home. Look at the view! We always get comments from friends and family that the service yard window looks like a giant painting. A lot of our home renovation planning was around allowing the service yard window to be viewed from other parts of the home like the living room and dining area.
  • The service yard window gets a lot of light so we place a bunch of plant cuttings here. Our jars don't look the best but as we are trying to be minimalist, we don't believe in buying and hoarding a bunch of vases. It's better to reuse what we have! Regular jars can look decent if you just peel the labels off.
  • It's important for the service yard to be functional. The laundry powder is kept in an easy to access jar and dirty towels can just be tossed into the crate to be washed after they accumulate. For our washing machine, we picked a slim one so we can place it in front of the pipes.
  • Instead of buying an expensive automated drying rack, we got a cheap movable one. When we have guests over or we are cooking, our laundry can easily be moved to another room.
  • A must-have in our home: The Roborock. We got the one that can automatically clean the mop after cleaning each room.
