  • Hello everyone and welcome to our first post! Our family of 4 moved into our second home in central sg in April 2024 and we're loving the new-house feeling and enhanced space! We went for a contemporary luxe look for this house - think beige, wood tones and stone veins. Hopefully these will stay timeless because we don't intend to move or renovate anytime soon! Kids amass a huge amount of stuff so lots of storage was also a must for us. Renovations took 3.5 months and cost about $130k 😓 But that may be justifiable as we did quite a lot of work from inside (electrical wiring overhauls) to out (carpentry everywhere) to spruce up the more than 10 years old unit. Starting off this tour in our living room. Many (wo)man hours were spent conceptualising the TV + storage cupboard; from the panel dimensions to the colours of the laminate. We also wanted the TV to be "embedded" within the cupboard for a seamless look so the carpentry dimensions had to be just right. The side next to the walkway was rounded off with curved edges to soften up the look and to avoid anyone stubbing their toes 😅
  • Here's a closer look at the display niches at the tv area. We didn't want too many display items, so we kept it to 6 slots and a shelf. Also, most of these items were from our previous home! Yay for sustainable living. We weren't sure that we required LED lights to illuminate the edges of the shelves at first, as they add to the already painful reno bill and we barely ever turned on such accent lights back in the previous home. But gotta admit that ID was right, lights do maketh the space!
  • Turning to our dining area, we have a 6 seater, 180 cm sintered stone dining table that survived a long boat ride from China! Yes, it's from the wonderful Taobao! Super glad that the huge slab and all parts arrived intact 🙏🙏 After using sintered stone for a few months, we're convinced that it's the ideal material for a dining table. It's spill, stain and heat resistant! Just wipe and it's good as new.
  • The dry pantry cabinet featuring travertine design sintered stone and walnut wood laminates. We picked the Aurastone travertine because the stone surface had texture and indentations which we felt resembled the real stone better. Our walnut laminate, chosen after going through practically all the walnut designs on the market, is fingerprint resistant which hopefully means easier maintenance! Do note how the area has become a mini bar, thanks to the copious amounts of alcohol that male homeowner owns. Thank goodness for ample storage above and below so that he can stash away the other 70% of it!
  • A closer look at the dry pantry and the grains of the materials.
  • Fun fact: we actually first ordered and took delivery of an L shaped sofa from another vendor, but due to unsatisfactory quality, we returned it. This left us sofa-less in the new house after moving in. <Cue frantic search for a replacement sofa.> After visiting the usual brands, we ordered this 4 seater sofa and ottoman from Cozylant based on the many good reviews, the ability to customise color and size, and their wallet-pleasing price point. True enough, their service was excellent and the delivered product is good value! Looking back, the initial sofa fail was a blessing in disguise because an ottoman is much more flexible than an L shape configuration. So here's a note to other homeowners: don't feel too sad if plans don't turn out your way; it could be a catalyst for something even better to come!
  • Female homeowner has the opposite of green fingers, and combined with her fear of insects, it became a no brainer that we shouldn't have real plants in the house. Thank goodness for this very lifelike olive tree that adds some colour to our beige aesthetic! The branches are very flexible so you can fluff up the tree to your desired lushness.
  • This nespresso essenza mini coffee machine should be familiar to many homeowners. After a few months of use, we appreciate its sleek looks, small footprint, and ease of cleaning. Separately, we love that the Legrand Gallion sockets match well with the travertine backsplash but gawwwddd why do switches have to be so expensive?!?$$$???
  • How much effort would you spend on a corridor? In our case, we bit the bullet to create a feature wall along the walkway, with microcement and oak panelling concealing three hidden doors. Can you spot two of them, and guess what lies beneath?
  • Behind one of the doors is our powder room! Dark colours and dramatic veining on the counter for this guest toilet. But just a sneak peek for now, will do a toilet tour next time :)
  • In stark contrast to the powder room is the kids' toilet! Kept it light and airy here with marble print herringbone tiles, blond wood laminate and gold handles to pop. Oh, and also a pink accent lamp at the daughter's behest 😅
  • And yet another mood for the master bedroom toilet. Guess we like variety in our life? 😅 Male homeowner has declared the rain shower his favourite feature of the house. Truly, no regrets installing this Grohe Euphoria shower system. Water pressure, looks, ease of use all good. 10 / 10 would recommend.
  • Sweet dreams are made of these. Wanted a hotel look for the master room, so we did a full height curved feature wall with integrated bedside tables and hanging lamps. Don't forget to include plugs at your bedside for charging your devices!
  • Coming back out to the kitchen... We opted for light colours to make the kitchen look more spacious and airy. Time will tell whether white kitchen cabinets are a bad idea but fingers crossed! We do a wipe down every week so hopefully that helps. The counter top and backsplash are kept seamless with the same quartz material used consistently. Can't really see it from this photo but there are subtle grey veins across it. Cooking is a sweaty affair so we installed the super cute mini fan from Fanco at the corner. Bonus too that it matches our colours completely!
  • The other side of the kitchen features the fridge and the tall cabinet, which houses the microwave neatly hidden away when not in use. Do remember to do pull out drawers so that you can air the microwave! Below the microwave, can you see a 2nd pull out panel? This is for the times if we need an extra table to prep stuff, or if we want more counter space. Because #kiasu🫰
  • Ending off our house tour here at the doorway. Here's a little nook where we dump our keys and small stuff when we get home, and cabinets where the umbrellas and some shoes are kept. Also, we cannot recommend smart locks enough! With this, you'll never have to worry about bringing keys or getting locked out! So here ends our home introduction. Thank you so much if you've joined us till this point 🙏 Do give a shout out if you have any questions, or just say hi! Looking forward to sharing more with everyone in this community and to seeing your lovely homes too 😊
