  • Welcome to our open concept kitchen, and also laundry area. 🫢 We retained most the original grey floor and wall tiles from HDB and selected laminates in white and brown for a more cohesive look in our home. We replaced our tiles for a quartz backsplash at the hob area, allowing us to clean any food/ oil splatters easily as compared to tiles as we don’t have to deal with grout lines. We dont do heavy cooking/ cook daily so we’re not worried about staining the white quartz. However, we’ve had some small blobs of stains from curry/ chilli oil etc but we do have 2 tips we live by to maintain its ‘whiteness’ 🤣. 1. Have tissue nearby to wipe spills immediately 2. CIF is your best friend (for tough stains)
  • This is the view when you step in! We have galley style kind of layout due to the rectangular shape of the kitchen, featuring two parallel banks of cabinets and countertop.
  • The tabletop at the front is slightly larger so that we can have more space for 1. baking 2. to put our groceries 3. place our food here when we're hosting 4. iron our clothes (we use a mini foldable ironing board!) 5. put our bags here once we come back from work LOL We initially considered having a peninsula, like a bar countertop but our back says no because high chairs with low backrest = back ache. LOL. Furthermore, we need to accommodate some space for our legs and to put the high chairs etc for a bar countertop. Even though it's really aesthetic, we decided to lean towards functionality by having more storage space at the bottom of the carpentry.
  • The area here is quite spacious as compared to other 3 room BTOs, measuring roughly 𝟏𝟕𝟎𝐜𝐦 between the sink and the hob. We also try to keep our tabletop free from any clutter. Condiments and electrical appliances like rice cooker etc are all stored in the drawers since we only cook once/ twice a week. Only our trusty electric kettle is on our countertop! Our laundry area is situated on the right. Although it is small, we like that we have the right amount of space, enough to contain all laundry related activities together at a specific spot.
  • We swapped out HDB’s original clothes rack for an automated drying rack from Steigen to speed up the drying process indoors. We usually wash our clothes before sleeping and use the 3 or 6 hours solar heat function. It’s very convenient because the clothes are dry the following day! ☺️
  • This is the view when we open our windows beside our laundry area! Not aesthetic at all. 😂 We put our cleaning supplies here to dry. Don’t want to hang our clean clothes here as it can get pretty dusty.
  • The view when standing at the laundry area. Pretty spacious right? 🤔
  • We opted for a pull-out faucet so that we can extend the hose and clean big pots/ corners of our sink! It also has multiple spray options; and we really like the powerful spray for cleaning! 💦 Dish rack is just above our sink.
  • We initially wanted to have our drying rack exposed but glad we decided to have a cover for it! By hiding our dish rack, it maintains a tidy and minimalist look, contributing to a more organised and streamlined space.
  • Opted for quartz for our table top because we prefer the smooth texture of it.
  • All our condiments and sauces are within reach, allowing us to be efficient in the kitchen while keeping the countertop clutter free.
  • Stickers for our switches so we don’t have to remember which is which. 😂 Easier for our guests too!
  • LED lights for the ✨vibes✨. 😆 Great if we just wanna get a glass of water etc, so we don’t have to switch on the main lights every time we step in the kitchen.
  • We opted for an induction hob for a sleek look. Its smooth, flat surface also makes cleaning a breeze!
  • Hanging our magnetic spatulas and spoon near the induction hob so we don't have to scramble for it since our utensil tray is in the drawer is behind us~
  • While water dispensers are pretty common nowadays, we decided to stick to an electric kettle! We were debating on this and finally came to a conclusion that it wasn't practical for us to spend more $$, since 1. we don't work from home, 2. it's only the 2 of us, so water consumption is not too high, 3. we usually eat out on our work days We boil our water in the morning for our coffee/ tea and once the remaining water is cooled, the balance will go into our fridge's water dispenser. 💦 So for us, a water dispenser is a want and not a need, so we eliminated it. 😊 If anything, the Mr would prefer a sparkling water maker instead! Still contemplating. 😂
  • Andddd is all for our kitchen+laundy area! While we didn't have a service yard, having a "galley style" layout allowed us to create a functional and more organised space. Hope that those with a similar layout can get some insights from our sharing! Till next time. 👋🏼 ps: Still thinking if we should frame up some quirky/ cute food posters on the wall. What do you think? 💭🤔
