Living Room: Netflix, chill, fall asleep till 3am

  • The living room is where we 'accidentally' fall asleep on the sofa till 3am at night with the TV on and Netflix asking if we want to continue watching whatever we were watching before we dozed off. We continued with accents of dark wood, but here, it's broken up with lighter, brighter, furniture to create some contrast.
  • Never in our lives did we ever think that finding an off-white TV console that's 1.5m long would take us 2 whole months of searching high and low, physically and online. Peep our favourite custom sliding door with waffle glass that's designed by our ID. (We'll share that in detail on another post!)
  • For a home that rarely gets the sun, when we get lucky early in the morning, the sunlight streams in and shares just that very bit of direct sun for our lovely fake plant 😂
  • Otherwise, this floor lamp (lovingly dubbed the mushroom) by the window helps with a lovely glow that's perfect to read under.
  • Our coffee table looks like Jupiter. We chose it for the table top colour that matches our actual countertop and dark wood legs that matches our carpentry. We're not sure what the material is, but it's some sort of quartz that's been (thankfully) very easy to maintain. So far, no watermarks or stains yet, let's just hope it stays this way.
  • In effort to put the Scandi into the Japandi, and to segment the living area from the dining, here's a rug from Ikea (low effort), that's machine washable and very easy to clean/ vacuum. Perfect for folks with sensitive noses like us.
  • Looking up, this is our favourite feature in the living room. Our ceiling fan with wooden blades. The grain, the colour, and the anti-dust coating, it's perfect. We love it most for how cool it keeps us, especially these 37 deg days. It's been over 6 months since we moved in, we only had to dust it twice. That's really minimal upkeep for something that's turned on daily.
  • On days we just want ambient lighting, this DIY shelf holder + lightbulb wall light does the job.
  • We have a little charging station where our guests use to charge their phones, and more often than not, we use to charge our electronics when we get home. And really, wanted to share the little zen garden here. Backstory: The husband wanted to build in a real zen garden in our tiny 3rm HDB living room. (But like how, where and how to clean?) So, I got a table top one for him for Christmas instead. Haha!
  • Finally, here's how the living and dining area tie together upon entering.
  • And the view from the other way around.
