  • Welcome to Our Kohsy Entryway! You will notice that our entryway is not quite your usual with the rectangular niche and setee bench for wearing shoes. Read on as we share more about why we designed our entryway as such for maximum functionality.
  • Same point of view but a different point in time (pre-renovation). This used to be the original kitchen entrance which we have shifted to make way for our entryway as this made the most sense given the layout of our house. P.S. check out our house tour post "Where Aesthetics Meets Practicality for DINKWAD Couple" if you would like to find out more about our overall house layout.
  • Here are some of the key features of our entryway 1. Limewashed walls and ceiling: This helps to visually separate the entryway from the living area 2. Full-height cabinets To provide sufficient storage space (because one of us is a millipede with many pairs of shoes 🤭) and keep the area clutter-free. The entryway is the first space that greets you when you step into your home. Hence it was important to us to keep this area clutter-free to create an inviting and organized atmosphere. A tidy entryway sets the tone for the rest of the house and also ensures functionality and ease when coming and going. 3. Laminated main door To tie the whole entryway look together, we got our door laminated in a color similar to our limewash and cabinet laminates. This helps to create a seamless flow from the time one enters the main door into the house. We also do not have a setee in our entryway because we did not want shoes stepping into the house especially since we do not have an actual segregation between our foyer and living area's floor space. Instead, we chose to have a bench right outside the house for wearing & taking off shoes.
  • The light in our small circular niche operates by motion sensor which comes in very handy when the house is pitch dark and our hands are full when coming home. The sensor is also set such that when it is sufficiently bright the motion sensor will not trigger the lights to go on unnecessarily. A hidden switch within the cabinets also gives us an option to leave the niche lights on if we ever need to do so.
  • We did not go with the usual rectangular niche design as we knew that we would likely end up leaving many small knick-knacks on it, which went against the clutter-free approach we wanted for our entryway. Hence our ID came up with this circular design which is perfect to keep the area looking neat and tidy. Our little niche serves as an easy access spot where we place items like car keys and dog leashes which are easily concealed by circular design. The circular niche also complements the various curved features we have throughout the house, creating a harmonious flow in the overall design.
  • The centrepiece of our entryway - this faux olive tree with real wood branches that we got from The Nursery SG
  • More than sufficient space for many pairs of shoes in our full-height cabinet. Seasonal shoes such as winter boots can be kept on the upper shelves and easily retrieved with a step stool when needed.
  • AA tracks so that we can easily customize each shelf's height according to our needs such as making the shelve higher for boots
  • Full-length mirror for the final fit check before leaving home.
  • As pet owners, we knew a robot vacuum was a must-have to keep up with the constant shedding and maintain a clean home effortlessly. So we also made sure to allocate a proper home with an electrical point for our robot vacuum, nicely concealed by our entryway cabinet door. This is also the main reason why we have a cut-out at the bottom of our full-height cabinet.
  • Yes our dog has her own wardrobe too 😂
  • Replaced HDB's orignial DB box 2 door with a single piece tic-tac door which we limewashed over to conceal the DB box.
  • Also added more shelves for storage because the key to a clutter-free home is to have sufficient storage spaces. That's a wrap for our entryway! We hope that this post serves as an inspiration to you in building an aesthetically pleasing yet practical entryway.
