  • Come on in! Feel free to wear your shoes into our foyer. As our flat came with composite wood tiles as the default flooring, we have retiled the entryway to create a foyer area. The ceramic tiles make it feasible for us to walk in even with muddy or wet shoes, as we're able to wash the area thoroughly afterwards. This would have been a nightmare with wood flooring that is prone to damage and bloating. The foyer is hence also the area we go to when we want to repot our plants or unpack messy packages, since we don't have a service yard. On our way out, the full-length mirrors give us the opportunity to do a quick fit check before we leave the house. The bronze tint on the mirrors also allow the cabinets to blend seamlessly into the neighbouring carpentry (our dry pantry).
  • We've replaced the door our of DB box and added vents to promote better air flow and allow heat from the electronics to dissipate. The laminate matches our built-in settee, which has storage space for keeping small items. We place our shoe brushes and creams in here. We've also purchased pine shelving to hang our car keys and reusable shopping bags for convenient access.
  • On the other side of the foyer, we have concealed our bomb shelter with a built-in shoe cabinet. We love how there's plenty of space to store all our shoes and that they're easily accessible. The only trade-off would be having less space for us to walk into the bomb shelter and it's unlikely that we would be able to fit very large items inside. However, this has not been an issue for us thus far.
  • The majority of our storage sits next to the shoe cabinet in our foyer, where we have organised spare household items and tools into categories. Such a system helps us find the things that we need quickly and reach them easily. As all our items are stored in this cabinet, we do not have to install storage shelving in our bomb shelter or feel the need to access it often.
