  • Our daily lives can be very eventful and packed, so night time is important for me to relax and attune myself before I start a new day. It helps me to maintain my health mentally and physically. Sharing some of my favourites and tips to creating my perfect unwind routine here.
  • Step 1: Find your favourite room scent I love a good scent in my room to help me relax and destress after a long day. I also like associating scents to memories, and a feel-good scent helps me to remember the good nights. You can choose from room sprays, candles or reed diffusers, and personally I prefer room sprays. They’re safer in enclosed areas. I prefer buying smaller sizes so I can try out different scents. A small spray also goes a long way as you just need 2-3 sprays for one room. Tip (that I do not follow LOL): Use the same scent every night to train your brain to know that bedtime is approaching!
  • Step 2: Opt for bed sheets with a material you like. There is a variety of materials to choose from for your bed sheets. My personal preference would be cotton bedsheets - I had the misconception that cotton bedsheets can be warm if one were to sleep without air-conditioning switched on, but the correct cotton bedsheets could still feel comfy since they are designed to be breathable. Cotton bedsheets are still on my wish list since it can be quite costly. My current sheets are from IKEA and they are still rather smooth and cooling, definitely worth it for the price! Step 3: Opt for weighted blankets I realized this is not a common practice for Singaporeans due to the thickness and weight in this warm weather, but investing in a weighted blanket has been a game-changer for me. Weighted blankets help to put your autonomic nervous system into rest mode, providing a sense of calm, making it easier to fall asleep, and improving sleep quality.
  • Step 4: Increase passive entertainment and reduce active entertainment with your electronic devices Passive entertainment is activities that put you onto autopilot mode, like listening to music. Plug in your speakers, open your Spotify, and play some lo-fi or jazz music to slow down your day. I try to opt for songs without lyrics, but personally, I treat lyrics as noise music, which helps me to sleep better! Tip: Use sleep timer on Spotify so you can focus on getting into your sleep!
  • Step 5: Tidy your bedroom Your bedroom is a reflection of your mind - tidy them so you will feel less annoyed and more at ease! We can be really tired after a long day of work, but try doing the minimum, such as keeping your counters clutter-free. Get more organisation storage! Step 6: Make yourself a non-caffeinated drink Teas made from herbal blend can help to calm your mind down and make heading to sleep easier! Everyone’s wind down routine is different, and I know how hard it can be to put your phone away! Learn to build a routine that is unique to you and try building the foundations first before adding in new steps that could be more effortful.
