Hello everyone! This is E and G from ourjollynest. Welcome to our rustic farmhouse-inspired home in the eastern part of Singapore. Our house is a 1300 sqft 5-room HDB resale flat.

Let us share a little about our house search. From the beginning, our direction was clear. We knew from the start that we want a flat in the east area with the following criterias: 1. Space We prioritize space and the potential of the house to create an open, bright, cozy and inviting space. We love being in the kitchen yet able to welcome our family members when they returned home. We look at walls that can be hacked so that we can achieve our open kitchen concept. 2. Convenience This is also of priority for us. We appreciate the convenience of having a mall and eateries within walking distance from our house. 3. Location/Distance to work E literally walks to work and reach her workplace in 5 minutes. Enough said. We also love how squarish/rectangularish the house is, which allows us to really maximise all the space we have.
The style of our home is undeniably coastal farmhouse which is greatly inspired by E’s mother who is an avid seashells collector. All the seashells you see in our house are generously contributed by E’s mother. We also appreciate a relaxed and live-in aesthetic, imagine rustic wood elements and cozy textures. We love the refreshing simplicity of coastal style but are also drawn to the rustic warmth and charm of farmhouse style. It is a perfect blend of old and new.
There is no hesitation to go with blue laminate for our kitchen cabinets as we want to bring out the "sea" in the coastal area. We feel that our kitchen is the heart of our home and it is where we practice and perfect the art of cooking.
We do incorporate quite a bit of open shelves in our house. From an appearance perspective, having open shelves allows us to showcase more of our personality, adding color and texture to the space. Our open shelves themselves are also an accent with wood laminate materials. No worries about the dust...E will gladly clean. This is all for our introductory post.
