  • A unique or uncommon design in our kitchen would be the low-height upper cabinets. Typically, homes in Singapore would have upper cabinets that reach the ceiling. We prefer this low-height cabinet which is more common in Japanese homes. Of course, there is much less storage space here but that also makes us conscious not to buy too much kitchenware that is unnecessary :) In keeping with the minimalist design, we do not have any decor in the kitchen. I do have some thoughts about placing a small plant on top of the upper cabinet but it would be such a hassle to water it!
  • The 2 doors on the upper cabinet are sliding. This allows us to hide the more unsightly stuff like dry goods and snacks behind the doors!
  • Another unconventional thing we did was to place the fridge in the service yard. We wouldn't have enough countertop space otherwise.
  • On the other side of our open kitchen, we have our induction hob and a small oven. We got the contractor to build a niche big enough for a standard built-in oven should we wish to upgrade in the future. For now, the extra space holds our kitchen towels with a handy tension rod!
