  • The design of our bathroom revolved around the idea of minimalism with a highlight piece - our artificial skylight! As you might've guessed, like of the other parts of our home, we got most of our bathroom fittings from Taobao too. Both wall and floor tiles were from Hafary as we didn't like the standard ones provided by HDB. We chose to go with 60x60 tiles with a budget in mind, and our ID helped us shortlist a few that matched the stone/ beige requirements we had.
  • We didn't opt for a storage heater because we didn't see that it would fit well anywhere in in our house, although it gave more options on the bath mixers we could choose from. We both grew up with instant heaters at home and appreciated the convenience of instantly having hot water without the concern that it might run out, though it came with the downside of the many exposed hoses. We also switched out the HDB louvre windows for a top hung window for 2 reasons - it wasn't pest proof (pests can still crawl in from the gaps), and that it didn't match the look we wanted. In order to accommodate the artificial skylight, we created a false ceiling for the bathroom as we needed to mount and hold the light onto a fixture - like how you would to a TV if you wanted to conceal the wiring! Thus, we have a lowered ceiling for the bathroom, but it doesn't cause much inconvenience to us :)
  • We also didn't like the look of cabinets below the sink because although it hides the (potential) mess, it also minuses the airy, minimalist vibe that we were trying to attain. We got our carpenter friend to fabricate 2 wooden planks that would act as shelves where we placed rattan baskets as storage for what we would need - replacement towels, toilet rolls, etc.
  • As we did not opt in HDB's OCS, we did not have the usual sinks to start. We knew we didn't want the standard table top/ wall hung sink. We chanced upon an image of an integrated sink on IG as checked with our ID on their rates if they were to source one for us. The quotes came up to be approximately $700 each sink, which was definitely out of our budget! Being the resourceful Taobao queen (LOL) that I am, I found this sink for a quarter of the price! It was customisable down to the colour and the finishings of the edges. We chose to go with the ramp design as it is easier to maintain One small regret was that these should be made longer in length, but due to space constraints in our bathroom, it needed to be smaller as we didn't want water from our bath area to be constantly splashing onto it.
  • We also got to hear about the uniquely design toilet bowl from Starke Living from a friend of ours who had high praises for it and chose to get it as well! I originally wanted to opt for the model with the seat warmer but deemed it unnecessary because... we live in Singapore hahahahaha. We also got contractors to tile up the exposed airing pipings that ran through our bathroom. This gave our bathroom a cleaner look as a whole. If we could change anything, I guess we would choose to switch out the drain covers using our tiles so that it is more seamless! Do you agree? :)
  • That's all for our bathroom! It truly is a conversation starter for those who first step into our home and we love it! If you’re interested in seeing more updates or befriend us (haha), follow us on Instagram @hausofsoh! :)
