  • Hello and welcome to our trunks and trees inspired home! If you're here, we're guessing you're looking for inspiration for your home and we hope that we can provide some of that spark to get you excited about planning out your own space. Before beginning on the rest of the home tour, it is worth noting that we are a 4-room HDB flat of size 93 sqm. Now, let's start off with our entry way - the first thing you see upon entering our home. We are thankful for this layout which puts our living room out of view from wandering eyes that pass our main gate.
  • After turning right from the main gate, you will be greeted by our dining area. "Where's your couch?" "This is not a typical layout!" These questions tend to arise from our unusual choice to put lounging area further into our living room.
  • And there it is! The quintessential furniture and appliance for all living rooms: our sofa and television. Having hacked away one of the bedroom walls, we are allowed to enjoy this spacious layout. If you enjoy hosting friends and family like us without the commitment of dedicating separate spaces for family members, opening up a room to create a bigger living space might be for you too!
  • Next, we have some niches and carpentry built along the wall leading into our kitchen. The open shelving allows for memorabilia to be displayed while less artistic items like board games can be stowed away neatly in the built-in cupboards. Do you have things to display like us too? Open niches might be suitable for your needs or the alternative of carpentry with glass doors work really well too!
  • Turning right to our open-concept kitchen, you can find more colours in line with the trunks of elephants and the natural greens plus wooden tones of trees. Credit is due to our ID for the brilliant matching of colours, not just in laminates but also tiles!
  • From this side of our living area, there's a bit more warmth injected into the space with splashes of rust orange, reminiscent of trees in the fall. While we did try to keep to the general theme of wooden tones, greens and greys, we couldn't help but want to inject a little more warmth into the living space to create some balance to the colder colour scheme.
  • Now let's journey down the hallway to other parts of our house!
  • First of the remaining rooms is the common bathroom. We decided to go with a free standing basin without any glass partitions to keep this space easy to clean. If you find it a hassle to clean glass in the bathroom, a free-standing basin might be a great choice for you too!
  • Next up is our (or if you look closely, it's more of a space for one, not two) study room. We kept to loose furniture in this space to allow for easy changes to the room. Admittedly, this room is not entirely in line with our theme of colours with the overall choice of black. That said, since it is a separate room on its own, we did our best to make the room itself cohesive although it may not match the rest of the home entirely.
  • Now for the master bedroom! A little sneak of the space with the help of our standing mirror tucked in a corner. Keeping it more of a secret for now so that we can share more about our master bedroom in future. That said, if you have corners in our master bedroom like us, styling it with a mirror like this or an arm chair can really help to elevate the space.
  • And finally, our master bathroom! Ending on a good note since our gorgeous mirror is from HipVan - the Kane Frameless Mirror, also named Teardrop! Having huge mirrors in the bathroom is a plus since it can give the illusion of a bigger space despite the limitations of HDB toilets. And that concludes our house tour! We are thankful to be on this platform of HipVan ideas to share about our home and sincerely hope that this little housewarming post has ignited a flicker of creativity in you to plan and style your own home. Till our next post, take care and keep ideating! Cheers, Mr and Mrs T
