We all know how difficult it is to shop for guys. With Christmas being two weeks away, are you still scurrying to find your presents but to no avail? We understand your dilemma, which is why we have conducted research on what Singaporean guys want for Christmas this year.
Ranked based on the popularity of the gift choice, this will definitely ease your frantic Christmas shopping trips. You can thank us later.
1. Electronic Gadgets
Without a doubt, the most popular and desired choice this Christmas. Appeal to his geeky side by giving him a new gadget to obsess over.
Functional and useful, electronic gadgets never fail to disappoint. Whether he is into sports, music or photography, it is almost impossible not to find one that satisfies his interests and needs.
Be sure to do thorough research before purchasing anything, the vast range of electronic brands and goods can be confusing at times.
Watches are not only essential for telling time, but they are also undoubtedly crucial for styling outfits as the right watch should complement the outfit appropriately. Find out what kind of watch he is missing and he’ll thank you for your attention to detail and thoughtfulness. If he is already a fashionista himself, a new watch of a different brand will most likely get his heart to skip a beat.
All the guys we surveyed claimed that they cannot live without a watch. That's right! This is an issue of life and death, apparently.
3. "Anything also can lah!"
Doesn't this sound a little too familiar? This is generally the instinctive response that guys give when we ask them for their gift preferences. So here are some gift ideas when he says the most frustrating word, "anything".
Nothing can ever go wrong with everyday items for practical use. This may seem effortless and boring, but he will definitely thank you for saving him the hassle of getting these items himself. Socks, notebooks, pens, towels…you name it, anything goes for them as long as it’s practical.
If all else fails, we all know that “the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach” (i know right, so cliché).
Whether it’s an elaborate meal at a fancy restaurant, a hearty home cooked meal or even a pizza delivery right to his doorstep, it might just be the best Christmas gift ever.
Alternatively, Vouchers can also be a great gift. Despite what many people say, guys can be very aunty too (or they might call themselves “thrifty” instead). You can always purchase vouchers for them to use — such as movie vouchers, mall vouchers or shop vouchers. Fuss free and simple, nobody will accuse you of being “lazy” because after all, who would say no to the opportunity of saving some money?
Age doesn't matter. Especially when it comes to computer games. Guys can go head over heels insane over these games, especially since there are always new game releases and new gaming consoles to fawn over.
So instead of rolling your eyes when they get too excited over new game releases and consoles, show them you understand that they are indeed young at heart this Christmas with new computer games and consoles. Then, watch them squeal like a small child when you hand these gifts over.
Be sure to surprise him with newly released games if he is an avid gamer so you wouldn't need to worry about spending on something he already has.
Warning: you might not see him for several days (or even weeks) after he receives your gift.
What better way to kickstart (pun intended) a brand New Year, than with a fresh new pair of shoes? Whether it is for leisure, work or travel, there will always be an appropriate pair for each occasion.
Almost all of the guys we surveyed confessed that they are always searching for new shoes to purchase! Ladies, now that you are aware of their continual shoe lust, you know what to get for him this Christmas!
Avoid burning a hole in your pocket this year by making your own Do-It-Yourself (DIY) gifts. These endearing gifts require time and effort which he will surely appreciate even if you are artistically deprived. Here are some simple ideas:
Necktie Zip Pouch
Turning old and used ties into useful pouches.
Decorate boring mugs with personalised chalk designs and messages.
7. Sports Gear
A simple yet sure way to make his day. Nobody likes exercising in old and worn out sports shoes and equipment, as not only is it unsafe, it doesn't look very appealing. Instead, a new sports gear might help to boost one's motivation to work out. Encourage him to continue exercising by replacing his old sports gears, helping him to overcome his inertia to exercise. Places to search for cheaper sports gears: Queensway Shopping Centre, Changi City Point and IMM.
When out on a date, have you ever felt uncomfortable watching him squeeze his wallet, keys, phone into his limited pocket space in his pants? While he struggles with keeping track of his belongings yet adamantly claiming “I don’t need a new bag!”, you secretly know he desperately needs one. This Christmas, get a simple bag for him, or you could even replace his old work bag he stubbornly refuses to replace.
Sometimes the greatest gift can be found at the bottom of a glass of wine or a bottle of ice cold beer. Get him his favourite bottle of expensive wine, or perhaps just a couple of six-packs might do the trick.
Since he might probably be hosting several Christmas dinner parties, your gift will be especially handy when he needs to entertain guests over at his place.
Alternatively, a set of intricate glasses for his drinking pleasures would also be a thoughtful gift. This practical gift would allow him to save the trouble of digging for more glasses when guests come over. Now he doesn't need to go to Zouk or noisy bars for a weekend party with his friends.
10. Skin Care
Guys are usually very paiseh to admit that they care about their appearances, fearing they will be chided for being too vain. Let them know that there is absolutely nothing wrong with caring about your skin with skin care products that will surely allow them to embrace their vanity with pride.
While some may find it tedious to keep up with continual skincare routines and treatments, they do acknowledge its necessity. Since they probably will not splurge on skincare products, pamper them with these products to show that you care.
