Sideboards

What Materials Are HipVan’s Sideboards Made of?

HipVan's sideboards exemplify craftsmanship and quality, constructed from the finest materials to ensure both beauty and durability. Our sideboards are primarily made from premium solid woods, including oak, teak, and walnut. Each type of wood is chosen for its unique grain, colour, and strength, making every piece distinct. These wooden sideboards not only add a touch of natural elegance to your home but are also built to withstand the test of time.

How Do I Care for My Sideboard Cabinet?

To maintain the beauty and longevity of your sideboard, proper care is essential. Here are some tips based on the specific types of woods used:

• Oak Sideboards: Clean your oak sideboard with a soft, damp cloth, avoiding harsh chemicals that can strip the wood of its natural oils. To prevent scratches, use coasters and placemats. Periodically apply a wood conditioner to keep the oak looking fresh and vibrant.
• Teak Sideboards: Teak is known for its natural oils, which make it resistant to water and decay. To care for your teak sideboard, dust it regularly and clean with a mild soap solution. Avoid placing it in direct sunlight to prevent fading. Apply teak oil occasionally to enhance its natural shine and protect the wood.
• Walnut Sideboards: Walnut wood boasts a rich, dark colour that can be maintained with regular dusting and gentle cleaning. Use a microfiber cloth to avoid scratches. For deeper cleaning, use a mixture of water and mild soap, then dry immediately. Consider applying a wax polish every few months to maintain its lustre.

By following these care instructions, you can ensure your wooden sideboard remains a stunning centrepiece in your home for years to come.

What is the difference between a sideboard and a TV console?

While sideboards and TV consoles share some similarities, they serve different purposes and differ in design. TV consoles are typically shorter and wider, designed to support your television and related electronics. They often have open shelves for media equipment. On the other hand, sideboards are taller and narrower, offering more storage compartments. They are ideal for storing tableware, linens, and other items, making them a better fit for dining rooms or living areas where extra storage is needed.

What is the difference between a sideboard, buffet, and credenza?

A sideboard, buffet, and credenza are all types of storage furniture, but they have subtle differences:

• Sideboard: Usually placed in the dining room, sideboard cabinets are taller with short legs and ample storage for dining essentials.
• Buffet: Similar to sideboards but often larger and more substantial, buffet cabinets are also used in dining areas for storage and serving food.
• Credenza: Typically used in offices or living rooms, credenza cabinets are lower and often feature sliding doors or open shelving, making them perfect for displaying items or storing electronics.

What is a sideboard or cabinet used for?

More often than not, a sideboard can be used to store glasses and alternate tableware. However, it is up to your discretion to store anything you want. The perk of placing a sideboard in your living room is that you can retrieve items easily compared to the storeroom. A sideboard cabinet also has a beautiful surface to display pottery or small sculptures.

How to pick a sideboard or cabinet?

When choosing a sideboard or cabinet, consider its purpose and location in your home. For living rooms, opt for sideboards with shorter legs for a cohesive look. In dining rooms, taller cabinets provide better accessibility and storage space. Ensure the sideboard complements your existing decor without overwhelming the space.

Which colour should I pick for my sideboard or cabinet?

Selecting the right colour for your sideboard or cabinet depends on your overall decor. For dining rooms, match the wood or colour of the sideboard with your dining table. Alternatively, you can choose contrasting colours for a bold statement, ensuring the interior colours complement your home's palette.
