  • Hello hello it’s the Chans again and today we are sharing on our “service yard”. Technically speaking, our 4-room BTO layout does not come with a service yard unlike most BTOs. There are pros and cons to this, and the disadvantage being our clothes might smell after we do heavy cooking. However, we like that the space is so much more opened up, and because we are the corner unit, we get quite a bit of privacy in this space!
  • Even though we don’t have a dedicated service yard, there is a wall separating our laundry area and dry pantry/fridge. It gives the impression that we intentionally built this wall to segregate the two spaces as some of our friends actually asked us that! This photo made me feel we are airing our dirty laundry to the world, except they are clean clothes waiting to be brought in 😅 Also, we use scent booster beads in our wash to make this area more inviting and pleasant!
  • We installed an automated laundry rack because we know the pain of having to bring in outdoor laundry when expecting rain or when it’s raining. We had to deal with this problem for the past 10 years of our lives and knew we didn’t want that in our home. We consider an automated laundry rack a really good long term investment! Having some west sun in our laundry area was also an important factor when choosing our unit! Other than the UV sterilisation function, we seldom turn on our heater/dryer as our clothes can dry with the sun and wind coming into this space! 😬
  • For the laundry rack, we purposely picked a size that is adequate and a colour that we love to match with the home aesthetics. It was either black or grey for us, thus when we saw this laundry rack at CEE 2023, we immediately purchased it and had it on hold till we moved in! For the size, we made sure to get the measurements of the rack when fully extended before confirming the purchase.
  • The set comes with 20 clips and we love its functionality so much that we purchased another 20 on our own 😆
  • Our laundry rack seems to not lower down as much as most people’s do, because we are on the top floor with extra 20cm ceiling height 😅 We also never had to lower it to its lowest because a small height above eye level makes it easier to unload for us.
  • So much talk and this is our chosen automated laundry rack 😂
  • We removed the original rope hook from the original manual HDB laundry rack and replaced with a hanger hook we found on Taobao for easy access to hangers.
  • Below it we keep the combined dirty laundry basket from Hooga. Each bathroom has its dirty laundry basket, and when it’s filled it gets transferred to the main basket here for sorting and washing!
  • The opposite side of the hangers is where the other hangers are (yeah the Mrs classifies the hangers for different usage lol) and where our washers are! We installed a hanging pole to make use of the floating space available, without competing with the limited floor space, and no carpentry to keep the space flexible for future use! We didn’t want to build in our washers within carpentry as: 1) we are afraid that it will be difficult to access the washers 2) we are afraid of the washers hitting the carpentry 3) our washers are at extended height and the carpentry wouldn’t make it any more convenient We hope our fears are not untrue!
  • We are so in love with our main washer stacked above our mini washer. It gives us extended height and makes it much more comfortable to load and unload laundry! We purposely bought black washer to match with the minimalistic monochrome kitchen theme!

  • Here’s showing you guys our main regret - insufficient sockets. Our ID did ask us if we wanted to make it 2 sockets, and we thought, no need, because we can just use a multi-plug. Honestly, multi-plugs are not advised for big appliances, what’s more, we added a UV sterilisation box just beside 😅 it’s a messy socket situation and we can only deal with it now 😑😭
  • Ending the post with a full view of our monochrome “service yard”. 😍😍
