  • 1. Opt for a flush mount kitchen sink We specifically ordered a flush mount sink, to prevent water/debris from getting trapped. This makes the area easy to clean and maintain. While our flush mount sink looks similar to an overmount sink, it does not have any raised edges where it meets the table top. Such raised edges can trap food and grime over time. While undermount sinks look more sleek, cleaning may be tougher as gunk could build up at the gap between the top of the sink and the countertop.
  • 2. Induction > gas hob Keeping easy maintenance in mind, we opted for a white induction hob! Induction hobs have a smooth, flat surface with no crevices or grates to scrub. Ironically, the white hob helps us better spot stubborn stains that we might not have spotted if it was black or grey.
  • 3. Get a robo cleaner Say hi to Rocky, our robo cleaner that keeps our floors spin and span! We really love it as we can programme it to vacuum and mop the floors on specific days/time, without us having to manually start it. Best of all, it self-washes its mop! The only thing we have to take note is to not leave long/thin items such as wires and plastic bags on the floor, as it might get stuck on those while vacuuming.
  • 4. Invest in sintered stone We opted for sintered stone as much as we could around our home – bathroom countertop, vanity table, and dining table! We also used Dekton for our kitchen countertops and backsplash. Although our sintered stones are white, we found them really easy to clean – be it cooking grime, coffee spills, or even makeup!
  • 5. Keep some paint aside One thing that we kept hearing from our family and friends is that “white is very difficult to maintain”. While we find it easy to keep our sintered stone surfaces clean, we also have white carpentry and walls. For the carpentry, we do a quick wipe of the laminates as and when we see any dirt. For tougher stains/marks, we usually just use Cif! The white walls are a little tougher though – as they are not smooth as laminates. Instead of scrubbing away at the walls whenever we find a scuff/mark, we just paint over them, using the leftover paint from our reno :P Hope you picked up a tip or two! IG: @robertslewzaijia
