  • Hello and welcome to our virtual 2D house tour where we share about our home - a 1,023 sqf unit in the North East! We just completed our home renovations and moved into this space in May this year. We are excited to share about our interior design and home decors and hope it provides inspirations for home owners’ renovation journey. We bought the house from the first owners, and it is ~6yrs old when we signed the OTP. Fun fact: we bought the house when Mrs is out of Singapore working in Bangkok, so some of the legal documents were notarised at the Singapore Embassy in Bangkok. We also gave a 7-month extension before we finally collected keys in Feb this year. Imagine the excitement to kick start our renovations 🤩 The core theme of our Home is dark wood with concrete grey tones, textures and elements of nature. We wanted a place that is atypical but still provides the comfort and warmth of a home thus we introduced many wood furnitures and furnishings to help balance out the coolness from those grey walls and floorings. We spent circa $65K on our home renovations which includes: - redoing both master and common bathrooms - hacking down kitchen walls and building a new wall - vinyl flooring for living, storeroom and 3 bedrooms - redoing floor tiles for kitchen and 2 balconies - false ceiling for living room - limewash walls - kitchen cabinetry, bathrooms under-sink cabinets - floor to ceiling shoes cabinets - concealed door for living area
  • This is also part of the original 3D render and our ID @ovon_design totally nailed the vibes we are going for! We made some modifications during later part of the renovation journey but the overall theme remains.
  • A bird’s eye view of our Home :) This is the floor plan from our ID @ovon_design and provides a good orientation for where our rooms are located. Our place is located on the higher floors of our building and we get to enjoy some good views and breeze!
  • This is the first view greeting our friends and family even before they step into our house. We wanted a dark foyer to create a stark contrast between the entrance and the living area, so that there is a feeling of vastness and brightness once the wide balcony comes into view. This feature wall made with fluted panel is also decorated with our pre-wedding portraits taken in Bangkok. These high quality Canvas prints are so much more affordable than if we were to print them in Singapore.
  • This is how our living / dining area actually looks like! We spent months to search for the perfect dining table and when we found it, we absolutely fell in love with it. It’s a 2m long dining table made of suar wood. We love the natural curvy edges and those resin-filled cavities which are part of this beautiful piece of wood. We also opted for mismatched but complementary pieces of dining chairs to create a sense of uniqueness. There are no carpentry work in the living room and we chose to keep our living area light and airy to create that vastness feel.
  • Our favourite corner in the house. Period. Rather than having a tv and sofa, we made a conscious decision that we shall not have them (until the time we feel an absolute need). Instead, we gotten ourselves this adjustable Atlas bookshelves where we fill up with books and items we love. We are not in a hurry to complete the shelves and very much prefer the flexibility we have to move the racks around as the season changes. The other side of the dining table is a 1.8m wooden bench which we got from The Table Guy as well. We wanted a bench for one end, and dining chairs/ stools for the other to achieve the home library vibe. These weighty solid wood furnitures are durable, classic and will go a long way so we didn’t mind the upfront investment.
  • View from our living room balcony - a space where we are trying to maximise utilization. We love how well ventilated our home is and the balcony is able to shield off the direct sunlight allowing us to leave our plants there without any worry. The balcony is also where we hang our laundry and sometimes chill with a drink or two on Friday evenings.
  • Right next to our living/dining area is the open concept kitchen. We didn’t like the original kitchen layout as it came with a semi-glass wall and it feels slightly claustrophobic with little space to manoeuvre. Therefore, we decided to hack away that glass wall, and erect a concrete wall to seal up the original kitchen door entrance. This is one of biggest modifications we made to our home. Definitely no regrets!
  • A closer look at our new kitchen layout - a U-shape design, keeping the triangle rule for stove, sink and refrigerator. We chose matt iQuartz for the tabletop and backsplash, creating a consistent and seamless look throughout our kitchen. Although it’s not obvious, the subtle marble design gave a touch of elegance to the space.
  • The grey concrete theme carries through our bathrooms. We chose a multi-toned textured tiles behind the sink/ toilet bowl as the feature wall against the concrete grey tiles for the main walls and floorings to provide the contrasting effect. Our ID also creatively placed the textured tiles vertically to elongate the height of the bathroom.
  • We got a 60cm mirror with light, to align with the length of the countertop and to create a cozy vibe for our guests (and ourselves). Getting a mirror that matches the length of the cabinetry was such a great decision as it makes our common bath feels more spacious.
  • This is our master bathroom and probably the 2nd favourite room in our house after the living/dining. We used the same approach as our common bathroom - using simple rectangular grey tiles to line the floor and most walls except for one feature wall where we picked these square light grey tiles. We matched the grey tiles with dark wood laminates to create a warm and inviting atmosphere.
  • As our master bathroom is bigger than the common bathroom, we were able to do a half height shower ledge to place our toiletries. We love the simple and unique look of this ledge and it is definitely very functional as well.
  • Last but not least, our master bedroom - a space for us to rest after a long day at work. We retained the wardrobe and basically repainted the walls and redo the flooring. The MBR also comes with a small balcony and we recently realised how awesome it is to open the balcony doors and just relaxed on our bed, enjoying the night breeze!
