  • Our dining area is integrated into our kitchen. A large walnut extendable table takes centre stage, with a bench on one side and two chairs on the other. We unfortunately didn’t have a good experience with our table vendor, so can’t recommend them. Thankfully the table at least arrived in a shade that was very close to our walnut cabinet laminates for a cohesive mid-century feel. In the background, a vintage-style microwave with analog dials adds to the vintage atmosphere.
  • My kids love sitting on the live-edge bench on the inner side - it’s their favourite breakfast place. A bench seems easier for small kids to climb up and down, and it’s really convenient for them to just turn around and head to the sink to wash their hands. It’s a great spot for doing home science experiments and homework too.
  • The chairs on the other side of the table have a vague k-shape to them. This design is very comfortable as oval backrest supports the back in just the right place. The adults usually prefer sitting in these chairs.
  • A gunmetal powerpoint is accessible from the side of the table. It has a typical 3-pin jack, as well as USB and USB-C ports. It’s a great spot to charge your phone or plug devices like steamboat. This acts as our device-charging station right after we come home, or for charging phones as we eat.
  • A group of dining essentials sits on the kitchen island right next to the dining table, within easy reach. Ceramic pots hold our utensils, and there are coasters within easy reach. Both the quartz countertop and walnut dining surface can't tolerate heat well, so the coasters are really essential.
  • From this angle, our trusty suspended ceiling fan is visible. We usually don't turn on the air-con in the dining room, so the fan is essential to keep everyone cool during mealtimes. And that sums up our simple dining space!
