  • Welcome to our multifunctional dining space/kitchen island where we dine or use as extra prep space when we need to. Also the area where my cats love to hang out as well. Our kitchen island is located in between our living room and dry pantry. The idea of the location being here was to be able to interact with the other spaces surrounding the island; the kitchen, living room and the study. We're also able to watch the TV from where we sit should we want to. This kitchen island was custom built by our carpenters measuring about 80cm wide, 150cm long and 94cm high, with casement cabinets for storage. The laminates are the same as our kitchen cabinets for consistency.

  • And yes, it has wheels! We love furniture pieces that are modular and has the flexibility to move wherever we want to. The front two wheels are castor wheels with brakes to secure them in place.
  • There were some concerns the carpenters raised about this kitchen island being built on wheels which was the weight. Thus, we had to minimize the weight by having KompacPlus as the countertop material instead of sintered stone which we have for the rest of our kitchen countertop.
  • We love how much this area has served us so far. We were also able to use this table as a buffet spread area when we had family over.
  • We deliberately had the carpenters leave 20cm of recess space throughout the entire island so that we were able to add more chairs all around if we had more guests. Of course, with that, we had to sacrifice some storage space which we didn't really mind.
  • I hope this inspires you to have wheels on your kitchen island! I still don't regret this decision I made a year ago. Though, I wish I made my island bigger!
