  • There's nothing like feeling refreshed and rejuvenated from a good night's sleep! Getting a restful sleep was something that we have been struggling with, me more than so than the mister. We have made a couple of improvements throughout the years in a bid to improve our sleep quality and stuck with what works for us - read on to find out more!
  • Our major splurges for the bedroom include our mattress, bed frame, and bedding. Some might find it curious that we're splurging so much on these items even though we're renting, but we find that investing in quality for these items go a long way. For instance, the Origin Mattress is dubbed the most comfortable, cooling, and advanced mattress and boasts of temperature regulating properties for a good night's rest. This certainly helps in Singapore's humid weather, whether you use the aircon or not.
  • We also splurged on our bedding option and found that quality bedsheets do make a difference. Our go-to is the Egyptian cotton bedding - it's luxuriously soft (gets better with each wash!), breathable, and hypoallergenic. Compared to Tencel, which is a close second in our list, Egyptian cotton is less prone to piling and holds up well over time. We have been using this bedding set for more than 3 years and they're still as soft and comfy!
  • We configured the bedroom differently from the handover condition, as we did not want the headboard to be facing the windows. This would affect the quality of our sleep drastically, as it can get quite noisy since we are situated right beside a busy road. The en-suite bathroom in the master bedroom is right beside the wardrobe area and we keep the door closed most of the time.
  • Instead of a bedside table, the mister opted for a wall-mounted solution in order to have more space for activity on his side. This transparent storage box is handy enough to fit all the essentials, while being sturdy and compact - it can even hold up his iPad!
  • At my side of the bedroom, I use a foldable stall that doubles up as a bedside table. Love that the stool is surprisingly stable and holds up really well (as the salt lamp is quite heavy)! Fun fact - we have more of these stools and use them for hosting when there aren't enough chairs available! For extra space, I added a wall-mounted foldable shelf to place the night light, so that there is ample room for each of the items!
  • Apart from investing in the big ticket items, I found that using aromatherapy helps me to rest better. The diffuser is placed in the bedroom so that we are welcomed by a faint fragrance whenever we enter the room. We also use essential oils, like lavender, to create a relaxing atmosphere in the bedroom. Our most recent purchases are the room sprays from a Thai brand, Everyday Karmakamet, and their sprays have superb lasting power!
  • Here's a glimpse at our hacks we use on the daily - ✧ Mulberry Silk Eye Mask As the curtains are not fully black-out curtains, we use the eye mask to block out light and create a dark sleeping environment. ✧ Steam Eye Masks Steam eye masks are a literal god-send! They are self-heating and known to provide a soothing experience for strained eyes. We use this after a long day of screen time and find that the warmth helps us to relax further and fall asleep faster!
  • Another helpful tip we found works for us is to gradually wind down for the night. If we happen to be home, it starts with drawing the day curtains to reduce the glare. We would avoid the big lights after dinner and switch on the warm-toned lights.
  • Apart from ensuring that our bedroom is dark and cool, our Himalayan Salt Lamp helps to provide a nice, warm glow to the space, giving it a cosy and relaxing vibe. Did you know that Himalayan Salt Lamps cleans and deodorises the air while producing beneficial negative ions? These negative ions, found in abundance in forests, beaches, and waterfalls, help to neutralise positive ions produced by electronic devices and pollutants!
  • Restful sleep is essential for maintaining good health - whether physical, mental, or emotional. These are some of our hacks for better sleep and we hope it will be useful for you too :) What are your hacks to a good night's sleep? Share with us in the comments below!
