  • Since living in our home about a year and a half ago, there’s been a lot of moving and till date, some items have not yet found a place to be. One of the areas that has been neglected is our unused guest room which has become a storeroom of sorts. Its current state is a far cry from what it was before so let us walk you through our process! (P.S. spot our favourite lamp πŸ₯ which we brought back from Japan recently)
  • Here’s how our room looked like before we made the decision to organise. We had always imagined the room to be a space where we enjoy our hobbies, be inspired to stay creative or just to chill and slow downπŸ§˜πŸ»β€β™€οΈ But with the mess in the room, none of that was going to happen. (This was already cleaned up once πŸ˜…)
  • To help us create a space to organise, the first thing we did was to try and sketch out how we wanted to use our space and see how everything would flow. Using Procreate, we quickly sketched out the rough plans and measurements. Afterward we headed to every homeowner’s best friend, IKEA to get 2 sets of shelves! πŸ›’ (P.S. we bought 1 to set up previously to see how it would be in the space and how we can work with it)
  • With the 2 shelves and organisation boxes of different sizes, we sorted out our items by categories and then grouped together by quantity for easier sorting. This meant that eventually all our items were packed neatly in 4 large boxes and 2 medium ones and fit perfectly onto our shelves! πŸ‘πŸΌ πŸ’‘Tip: Consider sorting items by minor categories and their quantity before grouping them into major categories for easier packing! (e.g. CDs + Albums + Photobooks = Music)
  • With most of our stuff packed neatly in boxes, we decided to take out some items that help to jog our creative mind and put us in a fun mood. πŸ˜ƒ Most of our items were collected over the years and as creatives we love the mish mash of colours that makes a space vibrant and interesting. For N, one of his prized possessions is his Sesame Street Mini Bean Pals set from 1999, a core memory of him sharing 24 happy meals with his grandparents! πŸ‘¨πŸΌβ€πŸ¦³πŸ‘¦πŸ»πŸ§“πŸΌ πŸ’‘Tip: Don’t be afraid to showcase your items and use them to decor your place! Showing what you love will help to make the space a bit more cozy!
  • With our space spruced up while remaining neat, we now often have mahjong sessions here with our friends and spend some of our weekend nights here to relax, listening to vinyls on our record player🎡 (P.S that will be making its appearance soon, keep a look out) Packing and organising might sometimes feel like a troublesome chore, but we think that decorating the space after is the reward! 😌 Hope this helps you in your home journey!
