  • Hello! Welcome (again) to our updated Classic Farmhouse :) I've previously posted about my home renovation journey and how we landed in this unit, so this time round I'll be giving you a tour of the house instead. Here in my living room, you'll immediately be greeted by this 2m wide world map as the main living space. You might have guessed, our IG handle @huangyoushijie is a Mandarin word play on "travelling the world 环游世界 huán yóu shì jiè", and it's a huge part of our DNA. So this home, while centered around the design of a Classic Farmhouse (think wooden beams, shaker cupboards, and faux fireplace), has a lot of our memories from around the world added, which I'll get to that little by little in the rest of the posts that follow.
  • On the other side of the living space, we have this swinging chair that's drilled into the ceiling to cozy up this farmhouse, especially during golden hour like this. Since we don't have a balcony (because I really wanted floor to ceiling windows), we carved out this nook as our little indoor garden. While we don't get direct sun (yay?), there's plenty of light thanks to the windows and our plants still thrive!
  • As we had bought a 20-year resale unit, the layout is pretty much different from your usual HDB these days where you have a choice of getting a open-concept kitchen. Instead, not only is ours divided by a wooden door, we also knocked down the entire service yard door to make space for a very large kitchen. P.S. you can see our renovation journey in one of our first posts!
  • Moving to the rooms, my study room is also where I keep most of our travel memories e.g. framed up cards, books, notebooks, etc. I even have our Antarctica polar plunge certificates framed up! I also have a random collection of visual cards, photos, and even boarding passes pasted with washi tapes in front of my table (if you peep into the mirror). I'm a visual person so all these little things keep me inspired. Another travel-inspired element in this office are the "international" clocks - I have pasted the city names manually and hung up clocks adjusted to their local time zones. Very extra, but these are cities that we love (or have roots in), so they feel like a part of us, and not just for the sake of decorations.
  • Because it's a 20-year resale, this has got to be my favourite part when compared to a new BTO HDB - we have a HUGE master bedroom. Unlike the BTO HDBs where you mostly only have space for a bed, 2 small side tables, and a wardrobe; I have enough space for a 1.2m long vanity, the wardrobe is angled away from the room (it's not a square), and we even have a little walkway to our bathroom. To help you visualise, I have enough room for 2 yoga mats on the available floor space to do morning stretches or evening workouts (not that I need to). You can see the space in my master bedroom post :)
  • Ending the post with our wooden barn door to our common toilet. Given our long corridor, we have space that allows for a sliding door without interfering with the rest of the rooms. Stay tuned for more content to come :)
