  • How do you know you small home is small? When we first started building the 3D plans with our ID, she said, “When you have steamboat, you can use the countertop across your dining area to put extra ingredients!” Truth be told, the dining area at home has been a wfh desk, where we sit around and chat, entertain guests, talk about the hard adult things we need to work through. It’s only been 6 months but we’ve thoroughly used the heck out of that space. This is what a typical weekend morning looks like for one because the other is out somewhere in the middle of his run.
  • We had so many ideas of what lamp we wanted but at the end of the day, after going through so many of them we settled for this round paper lamp from IKEA. Cheap, good, fits the aesthetics perfectly. Also, very easily changed! The entire dining set is made of solid wood, from Taobao. We chose the cherry wood option, and it costs us around $900 for everything. We did have to fix the table and bench but the chairs came fixed up. It has been very easy to maintain, no fuss to clean up, no watermark.
  • Watched the Netflix series “The Makanai: Cooking for the Maiko house” hence this Japanese curry inspired dinner.
  • We’ve seen so many people decorating their walls with photos or art of some sort, but we haven’t quite figured out what to put up on this wall behind the dining area. We have it plain for now since the wall across it has our pegboards and is busy enough. Crowd sourcing for ideas if you have any!
  • The legs of our dining table reminds us very much of nature and the trees in our hikes, an element we really wanted in a home in the concrete jungle.
  • Like every new home owner, we didn’t have the heart to risk scratching our vinyl floors. Not that the chairs would, but we’re being paranoid about all the “what ifs”. These Daiso chair socks do the trick!
  • While planning for the dining area, our ID defaulted us back to the steamboat idea so we installed electrical sockets here. It’s actually been so useful, we charged our laptops, phones, used the hairdryer, etc… served us beyond what we thought we needed. Something to consider during renovations!
  • Also we can’t be the only one to leave non-dining related stuff out on the dining tables right? I mean, on good days it is clean and very inspiring, normally, it’s got letters left unopened, flyers from the next upcoming agent asking us to sell our home, things we took out but never kept, grocery bags, etc… Just serving up a slice of reality 😂 Hope you enjoyed a tour of our dining space!
