  • Let's talk about the bedroom! After the dining area, this is probably the place we spend the most time in... to 😴 So I made sure this room was well thought out to fit both our needs (read: very different). This photo was taken during the first year of living in this house.
  • The best part (and I still stand by it) of buying an older 4-room resale is the size of the master bedroom. I see the master bedroom as a sanctuary for late night me-time, movies and weekend sleep-ins. After viewing a bunch of HDBs (just MOP-ed and older ones), this area is by far the only one with 6 windows, and in the form of 2 angles. This was also one of the major reason why I really set my eyes on this unit. We have the morning sun from the shorter end, and North wind coming in during the end of year season i.e. no need for aircon for a good 2 months between December & January when it's cooler. P.S. you can see the 20 years old parquet floor that we kept from the first owner :)
  • Before committing to a home style, there are certain criteria that you can already discuss and plan with your ID that would help shape your needs. For example, I was very sure I only wanted a projector in my room and not a TV, so when we did the electrical mappings, we have something for the projector (and speaker) that gives us the best viewing experience without taking up floor space. We were initially concerned about the weight of the wooden plank above our heads but our ID told us the glue is very strong and there's nothing to be worried about (we're still safe after 3.5 years haha). For our bed frame, while rattan was very trendy, I didn't want it to be an overkill for the farmhouse vibe since I already have it for my vanity. So we went with something that's easy to clean, hence a simple oak bed frame and with no storage solutions below (our robot vacuum can easily clean below). This photo was taken 3 years into living in this bedroom, and you can see most the the items still worked for us. Upgraded the projector and added a night light in the middle for an even softer light (see why below).
  • Yes this is our only wardrobe, and of course it has to be in a barn door style :) Fitting the farmhouse brief, I only wanted shades of wood and if not white in the house. You'll see this colour of wooden plank throughout our house's carpentry for consistency i.e. entryway nook (in our other post). You'll also see this light track from IKEA that was love at first sight. When there was an option for warm light, I knew it's going to sit here in our bedroom. The only regret (maybe?) that we have was not having a smart home for the lights, but then it's a farmhouse so we gotta go old school in some ways I guess. So this is the only light we use in our bedroom most of the days, and we switch to the portable bed light right before we sleep so we didn't have to get up again...
  • Cues bedtime Netflix binge! 📽️ This lighting was taken with the portable light so the movie/show you're watching with the projector will be much brighter. Also enters the view from our bed. While bigger than most master bedrooms, there was a weird length of space before our Queen bed. I was looking for a storage space for the longest few months as our wardrobe was so small, but there was nothing that we could fit without making the space to walk too small. After months of scrolling and thinking, I finally found the perfect solution: a faux fireplace! It matches the theme completely, and works like a charm in that space and right underneath our projected shows. Definitely my favourite part of the bedroom, and possibly the entire house 🫶🏼
  • And this is how it looks like during the day time! Makes me so happy, especially during Christmas :)
  • Going into the minute design details: our bedside tables and bed sizes. We settled with a queen size bed. Initially I was adamant with a king, but after careful consideration of the sizes and costs, we decided to go with a queen for a few years since we didn't plan on having children immediately (my mummy friends say it makes a difference but I'm not sure haha). Main reasons: it might mean I need to forsake a bedside table, and that triangle display shelf you see in the 3rd photo above. Secondary reasons: King size beds and sheets also cost more, and also takes more effort to hang and dry (I already hate washing and putting on the queen duvet covers until this day haha). If the above points icks you and you don't have weird sleeping patterns, you can consider the above. After all, both of us grew up sleeping in single beds so we're not that particular 🤪 For the bedside table, as you can see I have a huge vanity beside me, so technically half of the items are already within reach from my side of the bed. However, I just really want that cosy set-up for when he sleeps earlier than me (which is most days). So that personal light is crucial for me, and some essential oils - which you really can't smell if it's not right by you.
  • Finally, we also have a cute little nook area within the bedroom that allow us some privacy before you step in. This is where we keep our mirror to check ourselves out, and also little other pieces of decorations that hides the ugly parts of the room e.g. aircon pipes where we put frames on.
  • We hope you enjoy this piece! Ending the post with a streak of morning light that sneaked in from our east-facing windows. Let me know if you have any questions :)
