  • Welcome to our dining and living room - a space where we spend the most time when awake 😅 In this post, we will share more details about our dining area including some fun facts. The dining room features a rich ambiance with dark wood as its central theme. A prominent 2-meter long dining table, crafted from suar wood, serves as the focal point of the room. Around this table, a collection of mix-and-matched dining chairs and bench adds a touch of unique charm, combining different yet complementary styles to create an inviting atmosphere. The walls are adorned with a limewash finish, offering a soft, textured backdrop that complements the warmth of the dark wood furniture. These limewash walls enhance the room's cozy and sophisticated feel, creating a balanced contrast with the wooden elements.
  • A cross-sectional view of our dining table 😍 We opted for these legs instead of the standard rectangular ones to really make this table the highlight of our living and dining room. The resin filled area of the table creates a semi transparent effect, allowing light to pass through. Mr cannot stop complimenting how gorgeous this table is since the day it arrives. The many trips to shop and look for that perfect wood slab were all worth it!
  • Right on the opposite end of the dining/ living room is the solid wood open bookshelves from The Table Guy. We had in mind the exact bookshelves design and were very certain that we didn’t want a built-in carpentry. It was a love at first sight when we saw this Atlas bookshelves from Table Guy. Apart from the dark wood coloured live-edge shelves, we were particularly drawn to the flexibility to adjust the shelves height. This bookshelves will evolve as we go through the different seasons.. The open bookshelves are a blend of functionality and aesthetic appeal, inviting guests to explore our literary tastes and personal interests. The shelves are sturdy and stylish, seamlessly integrating into the living and dining room decor. We opted for limewash wall (even though this costs significantly more) behind the shelves to enhance the overall theme and we absolutely love the end results!
  • House plants are wonderful additions to any indoor space, not just for their aesthetic appeal but also for their ability to improve air quality and create a calming atmosphere. These are the small plants we got from BNC and they were delivered to our place alongside with the monstera deliciosa in the background. Monstera is well known for its Swiss cheese-like leaves, adding a tropical feel to our home.
  • We sourced our mismatched dining chairs from various sellers, each one uniquely adding character to our home. Every chair is distinct, contributing to a diverse and vibrant dining atmosphere. Inspired by the variety found in libraries with their different seating areas and chairs, we embraced the charm of mixing and matching furniture pieces.
  • “Before” - unpacking the books and sorting them out based on genre and book colours. Does it look like we are having a book sale at our home? 😂
  • “After” - our bookshelves today. Still very much a work-in-progress but we are taking time to curate and build this space as we grow through the seasons of life. This bookshelves give us so much joy and definitely a conversation starter when we invite friends and family over. Fun facts: we researched to learn about decorating bookshelves prior to doing up ours! Pinterest is our best friend for that. Be prepared to trial and error multiple times, but that’s part of the fun isn’t it!
  • In our living and dining room, we added a concealed door which seamlessly blends into the surrounding limewash wall, creating a sleek and minimalist look. The door’s surface is matched with the adjacent wall’s texture and color. This design choice not only preserves the room's aesthetic harmony but also adds a touch of intrigue, inviting guests to discover the more private bedrooms zone.
  • This is the night view when we switch on the cove lights and Ikea Dejsa table lamp. The lightings create such a warm and cozy atmosphere perfect for winding down after work.
  • We bought this super cute illustration of Bangkok map and found the perfect corner to hang it in our living area. No frames and messy drilling involved. Its these little details we love to add for our home ❤️ Fun facts: Mrs was in Bangkok working for 6 months, hence this wall art is more than just decoration but also a piece of wonderful memory of those times. Can’t find the Bangkok illustration already so linking the Chiangmai version for those who are interested :) Mrs love this Thai local brand 🥰
  • Right on the opposite side of the dining room is an empty limewash wall currently with just one hanging poster (the Bangkok map illustration) and a Buddha painting. Fun fact: A floating bench was designed to be built here to serve as display and storage, providing additional seating area for guests too. (See our House Tour post for the render) However, we decided to drop the floating bench due to concerns if there might be lack of walking space due to our 2-metre dining table placement. Overall, our dining room design blends traditional elegance with modern sensibilities, creating a space that is both inviting and visually appealing. The combination of dark wood, mix-and-matched chairs, limewash walls, and intentional decorations makes it a space where meals are not just shared, but also enjoyed in a setting that reflects our personalities.
