Welcome to the heart of our home - the living room! We’ve always dreamed of having a soothing space to come home to and hang out in daily :’) Our living room is defined by soft neutrals, emanating a calm and serene atmosphere to put us in an stress-free mood. To make our ceilings feel higher, we opted for low-profile furnishings with minimal built-ins, and floor to ceiling S-fold curtains to add a soft finish. We also deliberately chose a ceiling fan meant for low ceilings which came with a shorter shaft. Our home cinema transformation As two homebodies who love to watch shows and films together, we thought: why not transform this space into a home cinema whenever we want? To do this we got our curtains guy to install pull-down blackout blinds across the whole living room window - which also acts as our projector screen. This gives us 2 key benefits — 1) we don’t have a TV that becomes a “black mirror” staring at us when we’re not using it; and 2) whether day or night, we can easily block out the light from outside and get cozy up with a movie. Our Son&Bear sofa was a natural addition to our living room. Made of soft boucle fabric that is perfect for warm weather, it’s not only a statement piece but also functional and versatile. When not in use, it’s a low-profile highlight in our living room. We also have our Gray and Sanders Preston C-Shaped side table parked by the side of the sofa, which currently serves the purpose of holding our drinks and remotes. We love its versatility and how we can easily change its configuration at any time. When lounging on the sofa, we love that we can lift the backing for more support as we lean back. It can also extend out into a full day-bed for that “Gold Class” feel. Have to admit that I’ve fallen asleep on the sofa multiple times :P Since our sofa faces the full-length windows, rather than going for a full TV console, we repurposed a long and narrow laptop stand to be our “console” so that its presence is not too bulky or space consuming — this is where we prop up our Sonos Beam soundbar to enhance the home cinema sound. By the window we placed another one-seater swivel chair from Nine.N Official - this is our dedicated space where we spend our quiet time in the mornings / evenings, next to the morning sun and where we can easily look out to the city view. Day vs Night Lighting can greatly affect a space’s mood and ambience. We decided to optimise our lighting needs with Philips Hue bulbs and LED strips, giving us seamless control of our lighting — from the brightness to the warmth of the lights. We layered our lights for different settings throughout the day: Ambient lighting through LED strips disperses the light to achieve a softer look either in the day or night. The down lights are the main lights that illuminate the space. We even have a “housekeeping” setting which features cool lighting. For the evenings, we also programmed a “movie time” custom light setting with dim mood lighting so we can watch our shows comfortably. That’s it for our living room space :-) We hope this post can inspire you with some ideas on how to transform your own space into your own dream home!
