  • Hey there, we're @alilbto! 🙂 In this post, we'll be sharing about our house-hunting journey and tips on how to shortlist units from the entire pool of units available when you BTO (might also be useful for resale flat owners - these are things you might want to consider when searching for your new home!)
  • Direction of your windows/doors 1. Sun - Would there be any direct sunlight coming into the unit? If yes, are you ok with direct morning or afternoon sun? It will be hot (first-hand experience), and afternoon sun may make keep your place warm even until after the sun has set. If no, you're lucky - you've escaped the heat! But you'll need to consider your options to properly dry your laundry i.e. you might have to invest in a smart laundry system or a dryer 2. Wind - Would there be any wind coming in from your windows? If you do not expect your unit to get much wind, just bear in mind that it might get stuffy/hot very easily & frequently! If possible, take a walk around your neighbourhood to figure out how the estate would be like after the BTO is developed (if you're getting a resale, lucky you!) and how the wind might flow around the estate.
  • 3. Storey - How tall are the neighbouring blocks/buildings around your estate? How high is your unit? Low floors are prone to insects flying in High floors are usually warmer (closer to the sun) 4. Proximity to neighbours - Does your windows/doors directly face an opposite unit or the corridor? How close is the opposite unit to yours? Can people walking by in the corridor see into any areas of your flat? Would you need to perpetually keep your blinds/curtains/doors closed? Would you be ok with constantly having your blinds/curtains/doors closed?
  • Site plan & floor plans 5. Check out the floor plan - Are you ok with the layout of the unit? How would you be using the space? Would you need to make major changes to the layout? 6. Corridor activity - Is your unit near the lift? Would your neighbours pass by your unit when going/leaving home? If you like keeping your main door open, are you ok with curious neighbours constantly peeping in? Otherwise, are you ok with keeping your main door shut most of the time? (might affect the airflow within the unit) 7. Rubbish chute - Is the rubbish chute a common chute shared by everyone on that level? If yes, how close is your unit to the rubbish chute? 8. Bus stop (applicable to those of us who do not drive or grab :')) - How far away is the nearest bus stop? Is it fully sheltered?
