  • Hi HipVan! We’re your homies, also known as @houganghomies 👋🏻 Inspired by homey hotel vibes, we’ve (tried our best to) blend dark contemporary styles with a touch of warmth. It’s our way of creating our own cosy retreat amidst the bustle 🏠 After almost 10 ballots for a BTO/SBF, your homies chanced upon a 4-room resale that recently hit the end of their MOP and decided to make it our home. Here's a tour of this home we've made our own! Fun fact: This was the very first flat we viewed and instantly fell in love - we consider ourselves very fortunate for this!
  • But first, a glimpse of our home layout! We couldn’t have achieved the mix of our dream dark contemporary style and functionality for our lifestyle without our amazing interior design team, Lawrence, Qistine and Edward from Nitty Gritty. They helped us preserve the features of the original flat that we liked while allowing us to create a layout that suits our lifestyle while also considering our future needs. In this week’s post, we wanted to share what caught our eye about the original flat and what we ended up changing.
  • Here’s a wide view of our living and dining room! One of the first things that caught our eye when we walked into the house were the textured grey tiles. They perfectly matched the dark contemporary aesthetic we had in mind, so it was a no-brainer to keep them.
  • The tiles filled not just the living room, but also extended to the dining area and our current dry pantry. Not only does it make our space look larger, but sticking with them also saved us some money during the renovation.
  • Something we really appreciated were the previous owners keeping extra tiles! This came in handy when we had to connect the dining area with our kitchen.
  • Welcome to our kitchen and dry pantry! One of our major changes was breaking down the wall to create an open kitchen concept, which really expands the flow of the space. The dry pantry is perfect for easy access to snacks, coffee, and breakfast goodies, while the main kitchen is all about cooking up full meals.
  • This is our study room! Keeping the original half glass, half wall partition was a big factor in why we bought the house. It opens up the space, making everything feel larger while letting in plenty of natural light.
  • Not only did this layout help us save on renovation costs, but we also like how it allows us to peek out into the living room. Whether it’s keeping an eye on our future kids (oh damn) or watching TV while one of us works/games in the study, it connects different areas in the house to make it feel like one big space!
  • Welcome to our master bedroom! It also features the same textured grey wall as our living room, tying everything together beautifully. Your homies had our hearts set on fitting in a king-size bed, our wardrobe, and a cozy bay window table for vanity and a mini-work area if we have kids next time. However, rearranging the space was a bit of a challenge.
  • We almost gave up on the table but thankfully, Nitty Gritty had the perfect solution: breaking down the adjoining wall between our master bedroom and the common room to fit our wardrobe. This change not only created more space for our wardrobe but also made the space feel so much more open and airy.
  • Here’s a look at our common room, which is now our very own home gym! Albeit a tad smaller after we made space for the wardrobe in the adjoining master bedroom. It’s now filled with weights from our previous homes and recently, an indoor treadmill, making it super convenient for us to work out together. We also kept the common room free of built-in carpentry in case we decide to transform it into a kids' room in the future. And with that, we also can't wait to show you guys how our home keeps on transforming in the weeks to come!
