How we saved over 3.5k on furnishing our home

Hihi! I thought I’d share how we kept our furnishing cost within our budget. We mainly tried to shop on Carousell and at sales, which paid off big time, allowing us to save over 3.5k total in furnishings.
As per our cover photo, we actually got a second hand sofa from Carousell and saved slightly over 1k. This particular model is a popular office waiting area sofa, so we were able to find it quite easily! As pet parents, getting a sofa second hand also gives us some peace of mind in the event that the sofa gets ruined by our pet during the transition to a new home.

Another big item was our entryway sideboard which we managed to score at a warehouse sale. There were some some slight chips on the edges but they were within our tolerable range. We saved approx 2.4K on this piece!!

We saved quite a bit of money during our reno by having minimal carpentry and opting for loose furniture instead. The sideboard is a great space for us to display decor and store away items. As it is not built in, we still have the option to reconfigure the space in the future.

IKEA items are also a really easy find on Carousell! We scored this desk in near perfect condition for our guest room at a significant discount. The seller even delivered it over to us as they were located just one block away. The whole deal only took 15 minutes

One more way we saved money was to opt for cheaper temporary options, such as the paper window blinds from IKEA which we kept for over a year before finally getting proper window blinds. Using the paper blinds gave us time to save up so we could upgrade to remote-control honeycomb blinds.

One last way we save money on furnishings is the IKEA AS-IS section! We make sure to check it out whenever we go to IKEA. One of our recent hauls was this speaker lamp base at over 50% off! Paired with a $9 paper shade, and a smart bulb, and we have ourselves a wonderful bedroom speaker and smart accent lighting.
