  • New week, new space! This week we will be sharing more about our dining space, where frankly, a lot happens for us here! As we shared in our first post, we host private dining meals in our home, and this is where our guests dine in :) This room was previously a bedroom, which we converted into a formal dining space. As we’re big into antiques, we wanted a cosy space decorated with conversation starters, though as the room wasn’t very big, we had to make sure we didn’t over clutter it!
  • To begin with, we knew we wanted a 2m table to be able to seat 6 to 8 people. The table would be the largest piece within the room, so we started with that before we got cracking with other furnitures. We were on Carousell almost everyday scouring for potential tables and chairs! Some considerations that we had in mind: 1) A table with legs that weren’t too chunky, as we were going with mismatched chairs and didn’t want the overall look to be too heavy on the eyes 2) A table that would match the same dark walnut colour of our antique cabinet (and also living room) 3) Chairs that were wiry and see through but sturdy 4) Bright fabric chairs with texture (to soften the dark heavy look of the table)
  • Next up, a lighting feature for the room! We had an idea that we weren’t so sure if it’d work, which was to hang a vintage window grille above the dining table, and to loop an LED tube in it. We were so happy when we found a window grille from Hock Siong that matched the measurements we were looking for! So we got some help from our contractor to hang the window grille and to install an LED tube. We soon realised that the warm light from the LED was too yellow, so we figured we might try painting it brown to soften the glow, we did it and it ended up looking like molten lava which we loved! Here’s a close-up of the LED and window grille.
  • Of course, our love for antiques also meant we needed to adorn this room too with our collection! This original banker's lamp has green shade fitted to a brass base and fun fact, it's actually more than a hundred years old. Our collection of old kopitiam glasses and mugs fill the 'roti' display. Let us know which is your favourite!
  • A little peek into our little green corner in the room. We keep most of our indoor plants here as we feel that it’s nice to have some greenery in the room as we’re dining too. The Negroni light was a gift from Ronn and we love how it adds a really great glow to the ambience in the evenings.
  • Anddd that’s it from us! A lil cheeky fridge selfie here. We hope you’ve enjoyed getting to know our home, stay tuned for more stories from the bedroom next week!
