  • Welcome to our Kitchen! In this post, we will be introducing our minimalist grey and brown theme kitchen, which was a complete overhaul from the original layout (see our house tour post for the before and after floor plans). This is the view of our kitchen from the living/ dining area. It’s a small kitchen but it has everything we need for cooking up a storm. Kitchen has always been a love-hate relationship for homeowners. It’s a space that enables the joy of cooking up delicious meals for your loved ones but it can also be a nightmare having to clean up the grease and organize the 1,001 kitchen things that need to be stored away. Read on to find out how we have designed our kitchen to achieve the minimalist look and yet able to keep most (if not all) the appliances one typically find in a kitchen!
  • To keep the kitchen airy and minimalist, we chose not to install any carpentry works on the right hand side of the kitchen. Instead, we opted for a wall shelf in this contrasting wood laminate to display small plants and some of our favourite kitchenwares. We also installed a 0.6m line8 power track for the aesthetic look and convenience when using small kitchen appliances such as rice cooker and air fryer.
  • A zoom out view: Our washer/dryer is tucked tightly in between the refrigerator and the cabinet. In the center of the kitchen, we also installed a built-in microwave and oven for all our cooking and baking needs. These appliances, including the hood and hob, were intentionally colour coordinated to create a sense of cohesiveness in this space area. Carpentry planning was key to intelligently fit in all these built-in appliances and yet leave adequate storage space for all our kitchen needs. Additionally, the side window provides an excellent source of ventilation and indirect sunlight for the leafy living organisms 🪴☀️, further reinforcing our decision not to build any top cabinets.
  • Right at the other end of the kitchen corner is where our Nespresso coffee machine can be found. This is a photo taken during the morning hours while we make our ice latte. The side window, once left ajar, creates this gorgeous reflection that made those lazy mornings feel better. 😍 Our wooden chopping boards and knives set are also displayed on the counter top as part of the overall kitchen decoration.
  • A zoom out view: The left hand side of the kitchen is where our sink is located. Dish drying rack is hidden behind the top cabinets, instead of having it exposed. This is intended to create a sense of continuity and flow, especially when we have a limited space to work with. We picked a light grey laminate, resembling limewash texture to match our living/dining walls. In contrast, we picked a wood laminate for the bottom drawers and cabinets to balance out the coolness from the grey walls and floors. For the drawers, we went with 3 different heights to maximize our storage - L1 cutlery L2 cups and saucers, coasters L3 baking paper, ziplock, packaged beverage mix, excess Nespresso capsules As part of carpentry planning, we advise homeowners to pre-plan what they will be storing in each of these compartments. In this way, this will truly create a space that fits your need!
  • We also added a Blum condiments drawer to store our bottles and tubs. The smooth track and roller made the retrieval of these condiments so fuss free. No regrets despite having to top up for it. 😎
  • The front facing cabinets are made into glass display to house Mr’s whiskey and alcohol collection. We also installed LED lights within the glass display to serve as an ambient lighting. Positioning of the sink, hob and refrigerator fulfils the kitchen triangle rule, making an efficient layout. That’s all for our minimalist kitchen walkthrough! We have quite a lot of items despite a small kitchen. Thank you for reading! Follow us on IG @tanhoms for more home contents! ❤️
