No Built-Ins, Just Space: A Cosy 'White' Living Room

Welcome to our bright and airy living room at @ourcarousellhome, a 5-room resale HDB in the central region. When friends visit, the first thing they say is, “Wow, your house is so white!” One even joked in Chinese, "超级白" (iykyk). Some call it the ‘Apple x Muji’ store, thanks to the minimalist vibe with light wood and brown accents. And we don't disagree! Haha Overall, we kept the living room very minimal, with no built-ins in the main area. We wanted to keep things flexible for the future, especially as we plan to have kids. We know the layout will likely need to change to make room for their things. 
This place instantly ticked the box for us with its spacious living area, perfect as we love hosting board games and gatherings. We're happy paying customers of @nine.n.official, and after purchasing quite a few of their signature products, they visited our home for a mini photoshoot. In this photo, our living area was spacious enough for them to set up a sofa bed (the only item here that's not ours) during their visit. Since our living room is quite spacious, our 2.5-seater leather sofa felt a bit bare without a side companion. After searching high and low for something that wasn’t too bulky, we finally settled on this swivel chair. It’s now the house favourite—all our guests love it! We adore how it reclines and swivels, and yes, it’s so comfortable that we often nap on it. Pro tip: Mix and match textures to create a cosier vibe, but keep the tones neutral. In our case, the ivory linen swivel chair pairs perfectly with our beige leather sofa. 
In the original floor plan, this space was labelled as a 'suggested study,' but thankfully, the previous homeowner kept it open without adding walls. We initially planned to create a reading corner with two chairs and a side table but ended up choosing this versatile floor recliner. It can be used as a single seat when upright or laid flat to accommodate more people during gatherings. It’s also another favourite spot for naps!
